Hey folks, I have a 2011 2500, auto, 4x4, srw, SLT model. I've been having problems with my ignition switch for a while now, it's pretty finicky at times. I have to jiggle the key to get it to start. And if I so much as sneeze or have a loud fart the truck dies. (cause the key hole is loose a small vibration causes truck to turn off, even when driving) My question is, can I just buy a used ignition switch and key, and toss it in? Or is that little ignition switch box "locked" to the ECU, and requires re programming?

I Already bought a used ignition switch box with the key. I'm debating on just installing it, and seeing if it works.

The stealership want over $200 to install the ignition switch box and program.

I called a local locksmith, and they "claim" they can reprogram the ignition switch box to the ECU. But, I don't think he understands what I'm asking.

If you think the "stealership" is trying to rip you off, go to the locksmith and see if he can't mess up your truck. If you are trying to save a few bucks, install the new wcm but leave the kick panel off and leave the old one plugged in. When you take it to the dealer, they will just need to plug the new one in and program it. Should save you a little money on labor. But I dont believe they can be reprogrammed for a new vehicle though. Could be wrong.
