Since I just jumped from 2007 2500 to now owning my 2017 1500

Can someone please explain what this
AlfaOBD is????

What does this do and I'm suppose to go get the APP for $49??

Just a note: they wouldn't update my 2007 Ram computer or tweak my truck after my warranty ran out or some crap like that...

AlfaOBD and OBDLink Mx+ allow you to check diagnostic codes, change settings in your Body Control Module, and help with other things. It won’t tune your engine computer or anything like that, but it will let you change settings to run LEDs or HIDs and other things like that. It’s definitely worth the money.

Alfa obd is an app when paired with a obd dongle like bbfly or the mx can adjust factory bcm settings, say you want a mackup camera you can activate that and add your camera with wiring. Have led/hid lights and want to install them without the stupid bypass harness alfa has options for that. Keep your fog lights on with high beam. Add almost any factory item that didn't come with your truck and avoid going to the dealer to get it activated you can do that with this. You can also program keys, read engine, transmission, cluster, HVAC, airbag and abs codes with this one unit right from your android device! It's handy! I've changed my lights, added a backup cam and adjusted alot or parameters. I like the fact now that fog lights come on now as daytime running lights instead of the yellow ones along with the option on my u connect to disable them if I so wish, I like that feature for hunting.
All in all it'll be about a $100-140 investment depending on dongle and its worth every penny in my opinion.

I use the bbfly. It's cheapest and works never had an issue with it. Obdmx is reccomended though. It comes down ro budget. There's a 1000+ page thread on this and it's endless so much information on it about this stuff as well.

OKAY, so now that you have mentioned this UCONNECT... My STOCK radio got replaced with the Pioneer AVH-500EX

View attachment 190766

Is this a problem??? Am I screwed for UConnect????

You’re not screwed. If you don’t have a uconnect unit then you don’t have anything to update, regarding the unit.

You can also load the RAM app to find any updates or recalls you may need.

I have been using alfa obd since far before that thread started. Best part even though the developer is in Germany he is accessible and willing to help ( if I had to guess sometime between 2013-14 ) most of the info back then were from dodge darts.

On my 2011 ram 1500 I was able to add factory power folding mirrors, which were not able to be added till 2016 ( my absolute favorite mod ) because of that program.

I also really liked ( and still do ) being able to keep my fog lights on with my brights (both my 2011 1500 and my 2016 3500)

Also my 2011 came from the factory with being able to roll down the windows by double pressing and holding unlock. The 2016 did not ( essentially they stopped offering it ) I have since activated it...

My 2012 wrangler unlimited only had a tpms light on. I was able to add tpms premium ( a check in the box next to it in the computer ) which now shows psi in the evic for all tires

You can also read / clear abs and airbag diagnostics

It has more control ( generally ) then dealers

Only thing he has not been able to do, that I know of for our trucks, is in 209-2012 add the towing mirror so when it's flipped up the up arrow mixes the mirror up and the side to the side.... ect

You can also see everything they log, which frankly, is scary

Lastly there is a demo you can try that shows full functionality, but doesn't have full functionality.

Either way the obdmx ( now up to obdmx+ ) is ab amazing tool that works great and imo should be in everyone's toolbox

Hope this helps

Has anyone programmed a new key fob from this tool? This would save the cost of a locksmith.
