Initial switch to synthetic

My truck has 1500 miles on it now. Did dealership oil change at about 1000 miles to get factory oil out. Dealership put in a mixed blend oil.

I want to switch to full synthetic asap. How soon can I switch to full synthetic for good without messing with the trucks break-in period?

Most true synthetics say 3000 miles, but most people would say it is broken in now. Anyhow, no harm in getting the use of your oil you just put in.

From what I've read on here, a mixed blend synthetic dealership oil is crap compared to something like royal purple. Ya?

Some people say to do it right away but most say between 3-5k. I did mine at 4k

Yeah, you only have 500 miles on your oil, why change it? Last I checked there was/is no law stating how much synthetic has to be used to call it a blend, and also no requirement on what base to use. I wouldn't waste time on any blends. Check out the synthetic thread for more info.

I agree. It was a free oil change and I wanted to get the factory oil out. Money isn't an issue, so should I go ahead and put royal purple in there now or wait til 3000 miles?

Nothing wrong with changing to RP now and/or nothing wrong with waiting until you use up the oil you have in there. We really need to make an oil thread a sticky, this question comes up daily.

You are welcome sir, I'm sure you will be happy with RP it is good stuff. Also just as important as oil is filter, so I'd consider also using their filter.

Good advice. I found the royal purple oil and filter for my truck on amazon. Ordering the 5 quart 5w-20 and oil filter together. Will be getting changed soon. A local place said they would do it for $20 since I have my own oil and filter.

Your truck takes 7 quarts, and I also would have an extra qt because sometimes the level goes down.
