Supposed to go cold and snow for the next 10 days,so i figured it was a good time to pull the injectors and give them a cleaning.Got them soaking in injector cleaner, where i'll probably leave them for a couple days before using some carb and choke cleaner to wash them out using my old homemade injector cleaner.Good time to also wash and clean up the fuel rail :waytogo:

When i'm in no rush,i'll usually pre-soak them in injector cleaner, then hit them with carb/choke cleaner then usually follow up with a brake clean flush.I flush them both ways, usually do the back flush first so that anything caught in the screens gets blown out the feed end, instead of onto the pintle /seat.
I did find a rebuild kit for the 5.7 injectors that includes new screens, but so far i've never had one plugged to the point i couldn't blow the screens clean, after soaking it for a day or 2.

Damn cheap 9 volt batteries, aarrgghh, lol. I was gonna finish up cleaning the injectors this afternoon, and my last cheap 9 volt died ggrrr  Can't really blame it,as it cleaned my buddies injectors on his Challenger a week or so ago,and i should have known enough to grab some more, good thing is Crappy Tire has them on sale this week:waytogo:

Well after a few days of soaking and then a clean it's all back together.I haven't drove it anywhere, but just sitting and idling ,it has a better idle and the injectors are as quiet now as when the car was new. Not that they were noisy or it idled funny before, but there is an improvement, and that's on a car thats lived alot of it's life on top tier 91 octane and only has a smidge over 71,000 miles on it,and has had a few bottles of injector cleaner ran through the tank fairly recently, including Redlines injector cleaner and CRC's 1 stop fuel system cleaners

Ah, geez.
Personally when the trucks due for it's 100,000 mile spark plug tune up,i'd make time to do some maintence on the coils, and i'd also pull and clean the injectors,it's gonna eat up close to a day on a week-end,but it's better then parking your a s s on the couch watching football and drinking beer :Big Laugh:

Why all the cleaners and actuators?

3 different solvents plus a rigged actuator

back in the day we'd throw a carb in a can of solvent and call it good
LOL i'm a n a l,and when i clean something it's clean :Big Laugh: There's dedicated injector solvents, but i just used the cheap STP stuff to soak them in,then i back flush and flush them with carb/choke cleaner followed up with a brake clean flush, admittedly it might be a bit over kill, but by the time i'm done, they work like new again;)
You can buy actual injector pulse machines, and if you used one of them and an ultra sonic cleaner with injector cleaner, you could do away with the couple day soaking. But now you're spending some money;)

These are the screens inside the injectors, maybe that'll give you an idea of why i do the cleaning like i do,lol
Other then the open weave sock on the fuel pump basket, these are the only fuel filters on a hemi

It's just another line of maintence ,probably more important to guys who keep their trucks for a long time and put well over a 100,000 miles on their vehicles. If you swap vehicles/trucks every couple/3 years it's probably not worth doing.
I have maybe at most 10 bucks with the battery into my cleaning set-up,and a can of carb/choke cleaner does quite a few injectors,so it's not like it's expensive to clean them, and it shouldn't take anymore then an hour and half at most from injector removal to re-install to clean them

So, a 9vdc signal is enough to run the injectors? Would 12v be too much?

You could also use a small wall-wart supply (in the correct voltage, of course) to provide power.

But, I do like the 9v battery, they are probably better suited, in that, who cares if you use a new battery each time? Cheap, more portable, and you dont need to worry about finding an outlet.

I'll bet mine could use a good cleaning like this, I am terrible about remembering to run injector cleaner every so often.

9 volts is lots to cycle them Ed,but if accessing 12volts is easier it works to,i think you'd be safe even using an 18 volt wall wart, but don't quote me on that,as i've never tried it. The injector is just a electromagnetic coil so it should be okay up to 18 volts, but i'd scrounge up an old injector to try it on first

Battery is better I think. I just wasn't sure if they run off 5v or 12v in the truck. I haven't looked at that yet (as I'm sure you can tell....lol).

I tend to overcomplicate things, too. I take the long way around the lake. I arrive at the destination, but am slow to arrive. :Big Laugh:
