Talked to a local shop today. Just asking and getting a little info about installing a DS on my ram. He asked me what year, how many miles, and what engine. Told him It was a 2010, had just over 100,000 (100,092 to be exact, yes it was a sad day lol) and it was a 5.7 . He told me it would be pointless to install one on my truck. He said what ever DS, Bullydog etc.. claim what kind of HP you may gain is based on a brand new engine with 0 to barely any miles.
So no I'm just plain right sad lol recently installed a 6in lift with 20x 12 wheels and 35x12.5 tires. And yes I noticed I bet of power loss. Not much but still noticable. I have the 5speed with 3.55 gear ratio. Can any of yall chime in and point me in a direction on how I can obtain more HP?

A programmer is a great bang for the buck mod no matter what the mileage is and the Diablo is a good tuner with a custom tune on it. If not going with a custom tune, then I hear a Bullydog has the best canned tunes. Moesperformance.com can hook you up with a good deal on a Diablo with a Hemifever tune installed on it. Whether you go with the Trinity or Intune is up to whatever you are planning to use it for. The Trinity is a bit more money, but I have one and really like the monitoring features and large display. Also, I recommend a Vararam intake and, at least, a Magnaflow Y-pipe swap on your exhaust, if still stock. Good luck Sir!

Right now I have a flowmaster 40 series. I want to run a full aftermarket exuast system. I want it to be pretty loud. Louder then what I have now. But I also want get more performance too. What would you recommend?

The tuner would still increase hp and mpg..

Headers, high flow cats, x pipe, mufflers. and then a vararam because you'll need more air coming in for the air coming out.
You can change to a higher gear to get better hp and mpg.
and then the tuner,

If you want you can also always get the Ripp super charger, 500 more horses :naughty:

For the exhaust setup though, I would recommend

Headers, high flow cats, y pipe, electric exhaust cutout, muffler.

I would do the exhaust cutout so you can have it roaring load and then be able to close it when you see cops or making long trips on the highway.

Agree with the Idiot comment. Once you put a tuner on your truck, you wont be able to drive it stock again. When I traded in my 2006, I took off the tuner to take the truck to the dealership and could not deal with the throttle response. Truck will be night and day as far as I am concerned.

Hi beastex,

Tunig any engine will result in improved performance period. Auto makers don't know what each person is going to do with their vehicle so they have to settle for a 90% tune, that is a tune that will work 90% of the time. Also they have to deal with manufacturers emissions and mpg requirements. So they try to do a balancing act between all these and still have a decent running engine. With a tuner you will optimize the tune of the engine for your setup and that will always result in better performance.
Good luck, and you might want to find a different shop.

Run as fast and far away from that shop as possible. He doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. He probably also doesn't have the ability to custom tune your truck which is going to show huge improvements over the standard Diablo tunes. You will not regret this purchase, especially with the free custom tuning we offer.

I wouldn't waste your money on a full cat-back. No going to gain much if any HP..

That mechanic really doesn't know what he's talking.
Doesn't matter what year or miles a tune will make a difference. No it will be different truck to truck, but it will make a difference.

Convert, for now.

I did a Blackbear tune on my 03 Yukon and it made a huge difference, if a Diablo with Sean tune is similar, its REALLY worth it, and my Yukon had a small 4.8 and it would fly for a heavy SUV...and had 100k miles :)

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but where it doesn't agree with your own, walk away. IMO the tuner would get your truck AT LEAST back to where it was before your big tires. Go for it, enjoy, and report back.

Professional just means you get paid to do something. Doesnt mean your good at it lol.

OP,
The reduced torque management alone is worth the cost of the tuner.
