I am working on adding a tailgate/backup camera to a 2014 Ram 2500 and I have most of the wiring figured out as I just need to add that run control wire from the chassis connector behind the DS front wheel to the PDC which should be easy enough. Since the Mopar kit has been discontinued, I have been piecing everything together myself.

I am however wondering on the display side of things. I recently swapped out the RA3 for an RA4 and immediately after I enabled the camera options using AlfaOBD and I had the option for backup camera and cargo camera and everything appeared to working (including being trigged by reverse) properly except it would not play music off the USB ports but it would acknowledge that there was something plugged in. I upgraded the radio from 18.13.17 to 18.45.17 and I lost the camera options. I did try turning them off and back on and I have since got the buttons for cargo camera and backup camera back but only the button for the cargo camera works, when I push on the backup camera button nothing happens. Prior to the FW update I would get a blue screen with soft keys at the top for backup and cargo cameras and I could switch between the two blue screens but one screen would give a warning. Is this just a matter of waiting for the radio to fully sync back up with the truck or did I maybe miss something that prevents the BU cam app from opening? I was thinking about trying to do the run control wire tonight after work and figured I could disconnect the batteries while I messing with that to see if that might help the process along.

I have a 2017 model with a backup camera display in the mirror but also have an after market radio that provides an auxiliary backup camera input.. would it be possible to split / connect the orginal camera signal (and activation) and connect it to my Sony XAV-AX8000?

Is anyone making a replacement for Camera Body Harness P/N 68209529AB? So many posts are older. On my 2016 I have the camera, handle and correct cables all the way to this one. When I pulled it to look at it all the camera wires were cut off the connector. 2016 Bighorn Quad Cab. with RA2.

I replaced the original 56038978AI back up camera on the 2015 Ram to the newer 68644913AA several weeks ago. Works fine except the Grid Lines have been missing since the camera swap. The old cam had no problem at all and the Grid lines worked. Just decided to get the newer cam since I already have the newer Panasonic radio and with the old cam it worked perfect just was a little darker than the new one.
I have checked the radio settings and all in AlfaOBD and just doesn't make sense really.

Anyone had this problem at all with this kind of swap and not getting the Grid Lines back?

Just wanted to post some info about the backup camera install on my 2015 Ram 1500 Big Horn. Truck originally came with the RA3 radio and no navigation or backup camera. I bought a used OEM RA4 radio with nav and OEM tailgate handle with camera and jumper harness off fleabay. Also purchased the needed harnesses from Mike Grimm. My truck was an oddball and had the i220 style connector under the front driver's seat. Mike's harnesses were perfect length and looked damn near factory. Follow the instructions when it comes to removing connector lock plates and what not. Getting the pins in correctly can be a royal PITA. Almost everybody on the forums uses AlfaOBD to enable the camera, but I used JScan since I already had a vin license purchased. Jscan also allowed me to change the VIN on the used radio I installed.

Highly recommend going with an OEM tailgate camera and handle along with Grimm's harness. Nothing beats factory parts and everything working like it came that way from the factory.

Confirm my understanding please.

2015 ram 1500 sport
Rear tailgate 8 pin connector was fully populated on the side that goes to the truck already, added tailgate handle w/ camera and camera wire to 8 pin connector as seen in attached pic "camera connector"

I used AlfaODB to enable the camera, screen now comes up blue with system unavailable message.
Read through way to many posts way to many times.

Pretty sure im just missing the 3 wires between the footwell connector and the back of the radio.
See attached pics "current" and "new wires".
Current is what it is, new wires is my plan to use the noted connects on each end to make that connection.

Sound right?
Safe to order connectors from mouser?
I already have wire.

ok there is a lot of information here, I have been toying with the idea of adding backup cam, plus cargo cam, CHMSL cam to my 2016 2500 I like the idea of the cargo cam for hooking up gooseneck trailer. the problem is how do I know if my truck has some or no prewiring I thought maybe it would be in this but at 94 pages, and 1869 posts I don't know where in here to find that lol
