I've found that in order to keep the best rates, you have to switch insurance companies every so often, to get those new customer discounts. You don't get discounts for being a long time customer.

Another thing in dealing with insurance companies is that a lot of times they will do everything they can to get out of paying a claim. A friend of mine used to work as an investigator for insurance companies and he was telling me how they will frequently find some small discrepency with informaition provided by the client, like number of miles driven to work and then use that as a basis for refusing the claim. Like say you travel 12 miles every day to work but on the application it says under 10 miles a day to get a lower premium. The insurance salesman might even give you a wink and a nod at the time of the application, but then when it is time for a claim, the insurance company will dump the whole thing and refuse to pay, even though they have collected premiums on the policy for years.
When they bring up extra miles tell them you used the vehicle on a few long family trips or tell them you wen to a funeral, my wife and I did in my old truck, in 8 days we put over 3000 miles on the truck than until that trip had an average of 7500 miles a year...
