He's using the second prime up-shift the first 4G Rams with 545RFE's used for drag racing.

Only on the 65RFE its called "3rd" gear now,
not in the normal upshift sequence , you engage it manually.

545RFE:

1st 3.00:1
2nd 1.67:1
2nd Prime 1.50:1
3rd 1.00:1
4th 0.75:1
5th 0.67:1

2nd prime (now called 3rd in the new 6 speed)
is utilized only as a kick down (aka passing gear) in normal D mode

You can manually force it into the upshift sequence by holding the floor shifter left.

For me delayed my trans going into 3rd gear at the track by a second or so,
for higher MPH, and a quicker ET.

Here's what it looked like on my EVIC,
there is no 2nd prime designation, so it falsely reads 3, then when it shifts to 4 on the dash I'm actually in 3rd gear going through the traps (click pic for vid)

vid is about 4 years old, shortly after I bought the truck

Do you both have the same wheel size? Any tire upgrades?
Maybe he just has a stronger motor.; they do NOT all dyno equal.

I would play with the BD a bit, too. Raise your shift points, run premium tune with 93 octane gas and set your throttle sensitivity to the highest, etc.

Agree with this!! Shift point to 6000 should do it.

I would not run your BD shift points at. 6000, that's red line and your risking motor damage.
Only go to 5850 maybe 5900 I know there's going to be those that say they red line at 6200 but trust me for the mods you have you don't want to be doing a lot of shifts at 6000.

I've been shifting 1-2 at 6400 for over 3 years now, before boost, no issues

But a Bully Dog will never hit that high, only Diablo
(My BD would only hit 6000)

only Diablo can do 6200+

Sounds like he's got a freak of a truck. Or he has alittle more done than he's telling you. Are you both 2wd or 4x4's?

So this thread motivated me to try a test. I launched my truck in 3rd gear and it shifted 1-2 at 6000 then 2-3 at 6000 then I manually shifted 3-4 at 6000. This is about the best I can do with the stupid column shifter. Nice. I am now wondering where it would have shifted 3-4 if I didnt shift it manually. Or where it would shift if I left it in first gear from the launch. I know a lot of guys are going to say redline but I dont know where the redline is set with the HF tune and my modifications to the HF tune??

Normally when I launch in drive it shifts 1-2 at 6000 then 2-4 at 5700 so the launch in 3rd was much better.

When I had the BD tuner it was set to shift at 6000 and would shift at 6000.

I saw a youtube video last year of a ram running the quarter mile and the truck shifting into 3rd, at first I thought there was something wrong. So back then I tried to manually shift 1-2-3-4 but the column shifter has a delay so it didnt work out to well. I have read of guys putting the truck in 5 or 6 to keep mds off and other guys leaving the truck in first and it will still shift on its own. So I tried 3rd and it works nicely. I have had this truck almost a year and I am still learning how to drive it.:wtf:

so holding the shifter to the left will cause it to still shift on its own?

I ran 89 against him which is what I almost always use he runs 87 I run 93 every so often and I don't think I can set throttle sensitivity with BD

The shifting in these trucks really confuses me sometimes.lol
I can put it in first and it will shift by itself. Now if Im moving about 30-40mph and put it in manual mode. It wont shift by it self. It will stay in gear.

Then sometimes if I manually shift from a stop it will still shift when it wants.. haha

Now I dont think I've ever shifted manually under WOT, it's always been part throttle to 75%.. Wonder if that makes a difference?

It ****** me sometimes that I rarely want to use it. I think it has a lot to do with that 2nd prime.
