Wonder why to not use some kind of heat pack on the batteries keeping them at an optimal temperature to ensure better longevity and efficiency? Surely that would yield better results then the power required to even heat the batteries. Or is it more than just the temperature of the batteries?

Some EVs do have heated, and cooled, battery packs.

our Tesla does.however,when it's really cold they will only charge to 70%.we keep ours in an unheated carport and we haven't had any issues with it and it gets down to -40c.we weren't sure if we would have winter issues but so far, so good.couldn't tell you about range,it's not our main winter driving vehicle,that's what the Powerwagon is for.
