I have decided to go with K&N for my CAI. I want the 77-1529 because of the aluminum tube as opposed to the polyethylene one found on the 63-1529, but it has a different housing in its picture. Is this just the picture? If not, will it drastically affect performance?

The metal tube will actually hurt perfomance over the plastic one.

From what I understand the metal one will increase your intake air temperature over what the plastic one will, and heat kills horsepower.

EDIT: Figured out this part I posted. Just curious of the different box design would make a big difference in airflow.

^^^What he said.

Box designs and the more pronounced downward dip of the filter won't make any difference.

Even though one seems to have the air scoop integrated, and the other is just a box?

It's your truck, so go right ahead.

I find K&Ns to be painfully loud in the cab when under load. The comment above about metal pipe being a bad choice is correct. Engine heat will rapidly warm a metal pipe and pass that heat to the intake air more quickly. The purpose of a CAI is colder, denser intake air.

I'm sure you've heard of an inter-cooler, but have you ever heard of an inter-heater? There is a reason why they don't exist except maybe on an Snow Cat.
