I am in the process of making my SRT10 style scoop functional, but do not want water raining down onto my Vararam intake. Suggestions??? If I can't figure out a good way to do it, I guess the scoop will remain for looks only, but I would like the extra air flow if anyone has any insight that they could share? Thanks!

After more reading, it looks like a big headache with minimal gains. May just leave it closed up for now at least. On the bright side, I could package it as a ram air/ water injection combo mod? :roflsquared:

This has been talked about for a while. There is no way you punch holes and open it up, and prevent water from going in. It's all about aerodynamics.

I'm not saying that you cant, it's just when you start punching holes into stuff, you can't have one (air) without the other (debris, water, oil) into the engine. Besides, if you get more air into the engine, wouldn't that mess with aerodynamics of the car and actually lose some gas mileage?

It is a real possibility and one that I am starting to think may be the end of my ram air dreams haha

Never give up on the dream. If there is a product that can let air in, and keep water, and crap out....go for it..lol

Why wouldn't you just need a shroud on the top of the air filter to direct water off to the catch pan (that sits under the filter on vararam) in the lowest spot so you can punch a small (3/16"?) hole, and put a drain tube down the firewall to keep the water from dumping all over your engine?

Use gravity to separate the air, and water, and just make sure that before that happens it isn't hitting the filter media.

There is no catch pan on a Vararam. The filter sits at the lowest spot. That seems to be the trouble that I am running into. I'm really not sure if opening it up would really make any difference? It is getting cold air from the front of the truck any way. Thank you for the input jlb and keep em coming!
