Yes, extend the wiring yourself! There are many ways you can hook this up. I don't think you need to go as far as tapping into the ignition. You can easily hook to reverse lights or use a switch and tap into your trailer harness power wire. You could actually do both options if you wanted to. I've asked about how to do that with a relay or diodes but never got an answer that I could understand. Lol...
Lol. Trust me when it comes to electrical it terrifies me. I just picture sparks and fire as I’m barreling down the highway lol.
I watched a pretty bland video from the UK and some guy breaks it down for someone like me and it actually made so much sense. He spoke about piggy back fuse connectors. I found it on one of those YouTube rabbit holes and it shows how to find a fuse that has a “constant on” and “switched on”. So basically you use a volt meter and test the connections. Find one that doesn’t light up when the truck is off and lights up 12v when key is turned. That will send power to the relay and hence the whole system. When the vehicle is off it cuts the power and should kill the switch as power isn’t getting to the relay.
F&$k my brain hurts after that! If I find the video I’ll link it. I learneded so much ha ha
