So with this talk about a bunch of 21's sitting around waiting for chips and 22's coming out soon do you think there will be great deals on these leftovers? I'm very happy with my truck and no interest in a new one but if I can get a smoking deal I may bite. Probably get an identical truck but would have the 8 speed. Only options I don't have is leather, sunroof and heated seats. Really doubt I'd go Cummins cause I only drive about 5000-6000 miles a year since I work from home and my truck tows my 9000lb boat with ease. Don't think it would be worth it for me to go Cummins.
So what say you? Fantastic deals coming?

I feel I got a great deal. I had a 2008 f150 I traded. Problem is. Here at least, the trucks are scarce. So the days of going in and getting what ya want, not gonna happen. I got a great truck (I hope). I did downgrade, but in my case it was OK. I used my sunroof 10 times since 2008. Granted truck only saw 10,000 a year if that. The fun options, nav, better radio, stuff like that, just not available. So if your OK settling, go look. Just my 2cents...

I am a member of a few forums, the more I read on here, I'm not sure if I made the right choice or not. Seems like a lot of problems...guess we will see

Yeah but I'm referring to the trucks that aren't on the lots because they are waiting on chips, etc. Once those are finished I'm sure they will be looking to unload those quick? I'm sure there will be Laramies, etc hitting the lots once these parts are available. But yeah, to buy right now is tough. My son just traded his 2018 2500 6.4 for a 2021 2500 Cummins and they only had 2 new trucks on the lot. It was very hard to find a 2500 Cummins and the dealers would not budge on the prices

I wouldn't worry about your truck. Why are you worried about it? Between me, my son, my step-son, and my step-father we have had 12 Rams (3 2500's and the rest 1500's) ranging from 2007 to 2021 and total of about 600,000 miles and not one ever had any drivetrain issues. My son just traded his 2018 2500 6.4 that he put 95,000 miles on it in 2 years. He just traded it on a 2021 2500 Cummins. The payload isn't very good on the 1500 Rams. I have had a 2007 1500 4.7 (50,000 miles), a 2013 1500 Hemi (67,000 miles) and now a 2018 2500 6.4 (23,000 miles so far). My step-son has only put about 30,000 on each of his (2009, 2015, 2019) and my step-father puts about 50,000 on each of his 2008, 2011, 2014, 2017). He still has the 2017 and I'm sure it's probably closer to 75,000 now.

Those 2021 Rams that are waiting on those microchips will not be the cheap models, like Tradesman or Express, maybe not even many Bighorns.

At some point the 2022 Rams, possibly around November will be hitting the sales lots in volume
The dealerships may use their own secondary storage lots to hide vehicles, so they can proportion them out to keep the prices up

ya those they have been saving back are probably all the laramies that have been absent from the dealer's inventories the last 6 months. if they were lower trim level they would probably all go to rental fleets as there is a shortage of rental units around the country. I have been holding off buying because I am not going to get hosed on a tradesman and be immediately upside down when the panic is over. still looking for a gas 2500 laramie

Ram didn’t build any trucks to wait on chips to be installed after the fact. Ford did this, but ram went a different route and modified packages to not include the feature that required the shortage chips (blind spot monitoring). They just eliminated the ability to have that feature on certain trim levels, and made it a pricier a la carte option on the higher trim levels. All the 2021 HD Rams have been built out and shipped (mostly customer orders), and any 2021s sitting on dealer lots are it, which is why they are getting MSRP for them. You would be better off ordering a 2022, which are being built right now, and people are consistently getting 12% off MSRP on their 2022 orders before any rebates (if there will even be any by the time they start delivering).

I think there will be deals on Fords but a lot of companies (like Ram) just shipped and sold vehicles minus options so they really don't have a bunch of trucks sitting in storage like Ford does.

I've thought about looking at some of those HD Fords when they hit the lots and see what kind of deals they are giving but I really want some of the updates the 2022 brings.

Gas or diesels? (I'm only interested in Diesels) I've owned Fords (and Chevy and Toyota) trucks before and had no more or less issues then any with other brand. Sounds like you had some real bad luck though.

If Ram did not make any 2021 vehicles after the Microchip shortage was eminent

Why the heck are all of the old Chrysler Assembly Plant storage lots full of 2021 Rams, ie: Jefferson Assembly, Mack & 4 or 5 other storage lots are full of 2021s

Those would be DT Rams, which are still being built, and can go to storage for multiple reasons other than chip shortages. We’re referring to HD Rams in this thread. Besides that, there are ginormous 2021 specific members orders threads on the HD Ram and 5th gen ram sites, and none of them are reporting their orders being in storage “waiting on chips”

They were all gassers and quite awhile ago.

1990 F150 5.0. 7 MPG and a quart of oil every 800 miles. Bout it with about 20,000 miles on it. They rebuilt the engine at about 45,000 miles and said the rear gear lash was set incorrectly from the factory so they re-set the lash (Ford would not authorize new gear set). Dealer told me to get rid of the truck before the warranty was up cause the gears weren't gonna last. And even after the rebuild I still only got about 9 MPG and still went through a quart about every 1200 miles or so

1992 F150 5.0. No issues

1991 F250 5.8 no issues

1994 F250 7.5. Had about 15,000 miles on it when I bought it. Went to Nags Head from Pittsburgh. Went through 6 quarts of oil round trip. 4WD quit working right after I bought it cause Ford used plastic front locking hubs and the teeth stripped. Radio wouldn't work and truck wouldn't start after sitting for 2 days. Went to dealer several times and to an auto electrical shop and they could not find anything wrong. Traded it with about 40,000 miles. Never had that one rebuilt but it needed it

1996 Ford Windstar. Bought brand new. about 65,000 miles blew head gasket. Ford had recalled up to 1995 but not 1996. I called them up in Detroit and they had a bad attitude and told me it was my problem. Their 'fix' from 1995 to 1996 n the recall was to put a piece of aluminum between the exhaust manifold and the block. But their attitude did me in. I was nice to them so they had no reason to have an attitude. But even without the attitude, after that much trouble I said no more Fords

Our Dealers are bugging all of us to trade, so I told mine what you did, OP - show me a deal. They keep trying the 'ol "keep the same payment" crap, which maybe the general public bites on, but not most of us experienced owners.

Monthly payments in and of themselves mean nothing........new truck price and current truck trade-in are all that matter. We can get loans anywhere for near nothing these days. I told my Dealer to quit bugging me unless he shows up with a deal. Haven't heard a thing since. lol

My order for a Tradesman 4X4 took 31 days and was 11% off MSRP using a broker and OttoNation. Delivered yesterday. No chips makes a difference. They want the old truck so bad. No used inventory to be seen.

I just picked up a 75A last week down in VA I’m from MA. That’s the closest one I could find that was loaded and wasn’t over MSRP ended up getting it for just over 2k less then MSRP and then gave me a really good trade in for my rubicon

My son's new Cummins was $68,000. His old truck was a 2018 2500 6.4 with 95,000 miles. Truck was loaded with almost every option, including full console with touch screen and nav. Truck had a few tiny scratches that would probably buff out. And it had 4.10's. They would only give him $29,000 for his and would not budge on the new truck. They put his on the lot for $49,000. Highly doubt they got that for it. Brand new it was only about $55,000. I wouldn't have made that deal but in his situation he didn't have much to lose. His company made all of his payments and then some on his old one and were paying most of this one...lol. His old company was giving him $1100/month for him using his truck for work and his new company is giving him $500/month for this truck. And both companies pay for 100% of his fuel

From what we saw early this month at Fort Wayne, Chevy is taking the opposite path. Hundreds of new Chevy pickups lined up waiting for chips. I told my wife 'why don't you go grab one of those?' and she said she would.....If they weren't all black, white, or silver. I started looking closer and she was right. No red, maroon, blue, no fancy packages. My guess is they're using what chips they can get in high dollar dealer order trucks. The plain fleet, lease, rental, and "spec" trucks are sitting until they get enough chips.

I would be ok with a white truck but it would have to be a higher end package. Probably won't do anything cause like I said, I love my truck but if I could get the right deal on these leftovers that they haven't been able to sell then I may consider it.
