I have a friend in the business. He predicting a glut of 2021 left in 2022 due to the chip delays, and says about 12 months or so we should see some deals available.

Don't know if anyone has seen this but it seems that Ford is transitioning to a Build-to-order strategy for 2022. Basically they are not going to be building trucks just to fill the lots, you will have to order what you want from the factory. It will ship to the dealer minus any chips they are short at the time and the dealer will install them when available. Concerned about the "incentive" statement below. Seems like people paying full price+ during this panic has made them realize people are willing to pay more.

From a article I saw....

"Ford Chief Executive Jim Farley told Reuters, “We are really committed to going to an order-based system and keeping inventories at 50 to 60 days’ supply."

What exactly does this mean? Buyers can see a specific vehicle and a certain trim level at the local dealership but won’t be able to drive it off the lot the same day. Farley says the company is wasting money on incentives that don’t incentivize anyone. The build-to-order process is how most companies in Europe function, and it seems to work just fine."

I hear people say that they have not been holding back 2500's but my experience has been different. I have been checking inventory every day for the last 6 months looking for a 2500 gas laramie and there have just not been any around here. the sales manager at the dealer where I bought my '19 laramie 1500 has told me the factory has held most of them back because of the chip shortage. hence the fact that there are plenty of tradesman level 2500 gassers...less tech requiring less chips. to the poster that said they dont have any stashed back partially completed, sorry but I have seen aerial pics of lots full of them posted online.

Care to share those photos? You 100% sure those were not Fords, because that is all I have seen.

When my son bought his a few months ago the finance guy told us that in 5 years there will be no salespeople at the dealers so the Made-To-Order may be accurate

Carnak the Magnificant...finance guy. :D

He may be right. But I'm of the opinion that there will be no more finance guys LOL. I bought my truck on May 1 of this year. My sales rep did all the "finance stuff" for that purchase. It was the most pleasant new car buying experience I've ever had. No upsell whatsoever. I'm not even sure there is a finance person working at my local dealership anymore. They certainly weren't needed.

I think they will always have finance guys. selling you after sale stuff like extended warranties and undercoating and dealing your loan off to other lenders is a big source of money for them. that's why I always have my loan lined up before I go.

Sure, I didn't say dealerships would stop doing those things. Just that there's no reason the sales reps can't do them. Why keep someone on the payroll to do a job the sales reps can do just as well. No one knows exactly how things will look when they get to some form of normal. But we can all agree that things will probably not go back to the way they were.
