While I didn't suffer a "lockup" like this OP, I chose to rebuild mine because I knew where it had been.I second that emotion!
I'm guessing every single one of us here has gamed the 'engine failure' scenario at least once in our minds, haha. For me, it's a no-brainer, a brand new crate engine, and swap it in.
It probably would've cost me a bit more than the $6k I spent on the rebuild for a crate MDS motor, but it is what it is, I have to live with my own choice.
With a lockup failure like the OP's, crate motor all the way every day and twice on Sunday.
Even if someone did drop $6-8k for a crate, it is still cheaper than a similar used Ram, with no guarantee how long the used one will last.
