Hello all,

Up here in Maine (as with many northern states), winter salt application has doner a number on my 1996 Ram 2500. So I am seriously considering replacing the frame on this truck. Would anyone have a good source for a replacement chassis?

Mine is a 1996 RAm 2500 ext. cab/short bed 4x4 manual trans truck. I believe mine is the heavier-duty 8,800lb chassis but could be wrong.

If I tackle this job, I will most certainly also switch out the brake and fuel lines as well as much - if not all - of the wiring harnesses throughout. I will also freshen up the suspension with after-market parts and open to any suggestions in that area.

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Check your wheel bearings. If it's 3 bolt you have the light duty if it's 4 bolts it's the heavy duty

buy a complete truck from the south and pay to have it shipped up, probably $3k total, ($500-$2000 for truck, $800-$1500 for shipping)

Good luck finding that frame, I bent the frame on my 99 2500 quad cab short box 4x4, looked for 3 years to find a good replacement. I did find a 2WD quad cab long box frame that was in great condition. however after looking at everything, it would have needed a lot to get the 4x4 running gear on it. I went and found a whole truck with a good frame and am now getting ready to swap my engine into it and part out my old truck.
Have to agree with other poster, "look for a southern truck or parts from there" I share your salt problem here in Nova Scotia.
