Hi everyone, I'm looking to replace the stock lights in my 2017 ram 1500 with LED's Any advice about what to use? I know some run of the mill led's will throw a code, and was wondering what wouldn't. It had LED's in the driver and passenger side door mirrors and banks in the bed when I got it. Thanks in advance!

Is this for quad Halogen headlights or factory halogen projector headlights?

Factory halogen projector, I believe. The previous owner did nothing to upgrade the truck in any aspect.

I found my old post where I installed Hikari Ultra LED Bulbs in my factory 2018 Projectors (I'm sure there's some thing similar as well) ...

Post #1349 - Anyone try Modifystreet headlights?
(have to set/enable HID's with AlfaOBD)

Also worth a look...

Possible additional interior LED bulb settings ... (JohnWayne)

My 2 cents is don’t go with the no name generic amazons of the world that don’t even use automotive grade chips, especially the compact style that combine the driver and cooling into the bulb. There’s lots of good brands out there but a real set is going to be in the $200 price range.

The best cheap solution I found is using 80 watt halogens if you don’t mind the yellow light. They are not dot compliant but you can get them on eBay for 30-50$ a set as off-road label, my favorite brand is German company called vosla. I have them in my Subaru with reflector housings and my Toyota with halogen projectors. They don’t compete with my hid kit but are easily as bright as your average led ( not the top end ones) they won’t get super hot like the 100 watt bulbs and melt your housing either. Just make sure you don’t have voltage drop and are getting a solid 14 plus volts when the vehicle is running at the connector and you’re good to go. No worrying about flicker, bulb out, and modifications needed for LEDs. Before I upgraded out of my factory projectors I didn’t realize how bad the beam pattern is on a factory vehicle until I experienced the aftermarket world of amazing optics that morimoto offers, that’s why I’m not too excited about trying to upgrade halogen projectors with a led bulb anymore it’s just average results.

2015 seems to be unique for some reason. IMHO. I've tried multiple times to help users with LEDs and HIDs since I have alpaobd.

Now if they tell me it's a 2015, I say I can't help you. Maybe it's me. But I have zero luck with that model year regardless of trim level.

As far as I know, no LED is DOT compliant to be used in a non-LED housing.

It's not you, there something different about the electrical system with the '15 trucks. There is modules in the trucks that are '15 year specific. Its part of the reason why I haven't switched my low beam headlights away from halogen. Although I have no issues with LED high beam or fog lights

In order to get the LED's to work in my 15' i had to change the headlight setting to LED but also had to turn on the H.I.D. option if i remember correctly. have had no issues since with LED low beams.

Factory projectors...go with HID. More expensive, but it is the same type of bulb as a halogen(IE: 360 degree light output vs. a 2sided led chip). I have OEM projectors with 8000k HID's and 55watt ballasts that bring the light temp down to about 6500k. I still have a slight bluish tint on the road, but in the rain, they still give good output. If you want less blueish color, you could go with a 6k bulb and 55w ballast, that will bring it close to "pure white".20240819_205925.jpg

I have quad housings and want to swap to projector. If I order the Fahren’s from the link above, do I need an adaptor harness?
