Love people who think they can drive and text! I was at a dead stop with hazards on when he hit me doing 50 mph.

I think I'd crawl up and look around. If the frame isn't bent and there's just bumper damage, I think I'd see if I could get a new bumper paid for and skip the accident on the Carfax.
I thought about this but all the lights are on in the dash. Check engine, ABS, Traction control, the park brake light- even though it's not engaged.

Hope you are in good health and have a tremendous Christmas. Cars can be replaced.

Distracted driving now causes far more accidents and deaths than drunk driving ever did but you still see very little enforcement. Hope that changes soon.

Weird thing is, I was so pissed off when EMS showed up, but it wasn't until one of them said " if you weren't here and got hit those kids driving the jeep would of got killed." The jeep in front on me had 4 kids in it, they were standing behind their jeep because it had a flat. She couldn't get it off the on ramp. I do look at it as a blessing. God will put you where you need to be when you need to be there.

Funny how the universe works sometimes.

You were in the wrong place for your Ram & the aggravation factor but, having most likely saved several lives is amazing and has to make one wonder.

Sorry for your grief and damage. I hope you can find some solace in knowing that your presence averted a catastrophe of enormous proportions.

How did you determine the striking vehicle was driving at 50 mph?

The amount of damage does not look like a 50 mph crash?
Did you look at the damage to the car that hit him? Looks like 50 to me. I agree with a previous comment that the pickup came out of that in amazingly good shape though.

He told the cop he was doing 50. The cop said that he was probably doing over that but there was no skid marks because he never touched his brakes.

Although I'm quoting your comment about your truck, curbside view vs crawling under plus dash lights...

Glad you are feeling "ok" but please get thoroughly checked out by the professionals. Find out EVERYTHING you can before the claim is closed.

Those 4 young folks ought to be sending you Thank You cards for the rest of their lives. I shudder to think what would have happened to them if you and your truck weren't there.

Paying a few $ for a thorough medical assessment cannot be overstated regardless of how you feel.

Them, their families, their friends and/or significant others. Wow!

Just another reminder of our precarious existence and how one $hit for brains can erase it all in an instant.

Like an Alpine ski accident, one person should be immediately assigned to ST FU and do nothing but watch from the side of the road. Still no guarantees though.

Glad you're "okay," save for the concussion. Agree with the others, your location and timing, saved four innocent kids. Time to get a "hit me and find out" rear bumper when you get work done. I got mine from Fab Fours.

I always worry about this as I see lots of drivers looking down at their phones while traveling 90ft/sec. Glad you got away with just a concussion, although that in itself a pretty serious injury. Keep an eye on it. Truck held up well.

Even with Michigan's hands free laws (can't hold your phone/electronic devices with your hands while driving), I still see at least 25% of the driver's still holding onto their phones. Most of them it's painfully obvious they're distracted while driving.
