There are a lot of things that I don’t think should be happening on a vehicle that has under 6000 miles on it.

1. When we bought the truck in October it had such a bad odor in the cab. When driving in town stop and go you had to roll the window down because your eyes would literally burn. Immediately took it in and dealer stated npf (just new labels burning off). I brought it back again thinking there’s no way I could drive the vehicle like that. On the road test the tech thought the veh was on fire because at a stop he saw smoke coming from the eng area. Turned out we had an exhaust leak getting into the cab.

2. Left front seat cushion color is worn off the outer edge. Waiting to see if it will be covered. This is documented on repair order at 3000 miles.

3. XM will not hold driver 2 presets if driver 1 is selected then driver 2 is selected.

4. Right front and right rear b pillar trim tape is completely wrinkled and lumpy. (Getting replaced this week under warranty).

5. Last week got into the truck at lunch and had no volume from radio. Pulled into the service drive and shut the vehicle off so I could have an advisor come look at it. He walked to the vehicle with me I started the truck and the volume came on. I didn’t touch anything other than starting the truck.

6. There is a random drivetrain whine when driving 35 to 45 mph. Tech cannot duplicate.

We bought what we thought was the best because we knew that we were going to keep this for a long time but honestly I’m scared to hook the 5th wheel up and head out on a road trip.

On a more positive note it’s a pretty truck and the suede headliner is really nice.

Man, that's real weird...

Give them a shot at solving the issues. Otherwise, lemon-law it, and get another. Just be double-certain to have your own copies of all the documentation, and video/photograph as much as you can (and ensure that you use your phone to do it so that date/time stamps get applied.)

#5 is semi normal as I’ve had lots of cars that do that. If you go up or down a radio station or preset the volume usually comes back. I’m not sure what it is but after working on cars for 20+ years I’ve seen it and owned cars where that happens and I’ve been told by many bosses that it’s normal and nothing wrong with the radio.

Definitely keep all of your work order receipts and find ways to record or photograph what your complaints are and the try to stay as calm as possible when you go into the dealership because the nicer/calmer you are with them, the more likely they are to help you if you go after the lemon law. Also, you have to take the truck in for the exact same issue 3 times within a certain number of days and I can’t remember if it’s 30 or 90 days. It’s not an easy thing to do, but as an ex service advisor, it was usually the customers that stayed the most patient that were able to get their car to fall into the lemon law and get replaced.

I’ve got the same issue in #2 above in my 2018 1500 TE. The Natura Plus leather is very soft and damages easily. Looks really nice but is hard to keep in good condition. Did you enable to easy entry/exit feature? That might help.

I’ve had the volume issue occur also on a couple of occasions. It’s something to do with the Uconnect boot up sequence and you have to cycle the engine to remedy. It seems to be tied to attempting to use the volume knob too early in the boot sequence - like if you left the volume up loud when exiting the truck and immediately attempt to lower the volume upon startup. I’ve gotten into the habit of lowering the volume prior to exiting the truck and this issue has disappeared as a result.

I'm pretty sure you can have a hundred things wrong with your truck, but its not covered by lemon law unless they try to fix the same single issue three times to no avail.

Why don't you go back to whatever hole (or brand) you came from since your only purpose here appears to be bashing the brand. All the manufactures have issues, Ram is not unique. And the problems described by OP would hardly prevent any sane person from taking a road trip with said vehicle.
I’m just looking to see if anyone here has experienced the same issues and had any luck with repairing said issues since the dealership hasn’t dealt with anything like this before. By the way this is my second RAM 2500. I also must tell you the reason for my latest purchase is I sell on the commercial side 5500 body trucks. Those things are bulletproof. Also, been a service advisor for 13 years. As for being nervous about towing when your getting a audible whine under no load not sure if it’s trans or engine the last thing I want to do is hit the mountains pulling over 10,000 lbs. and possibly cause damage to the vehicle.

Lemon law isn’t an option. As I said before I love this truck just need to get the kinks worked out!!! Thanks for any and all input!

Really strange that a new vehicle would have that many problems, almost sounds like it wasn’t really new if you know what I mean, or built out of crap parts.

No, it only had 46 miles on it when I purchased it. It’s really just a lot of small stuff that we need to get figured out. Especially since I plan on keeping this truck for a long time. Convenience items are a pain but I know those things happen and will get taken care of. The intermittent whine is my main concern.... almost sounds like a turbo spooling up. This just happens when you’re cruising along. Rpms stay level, engine isn’t revving and it’s not on acceleration or deceleration just when your between 35 and 45 mph driving through town.

I looked at upgrading to a 2018 earlier this year when they had all the discounts available.
Word around was that the 2018's were having more issues than previous years for some reason. So I decided to wait a couple more years.
I'm guessing it has to do with them shifting focus to the new 2019 models.

Sincerely hope yours works out for you, and these first few issues are just anomalies.

With regards to the radio volume problem, I have a similar issue on mine where the navigation volume setting somehow replace the radio volume setting. If I turn the radio volume all the way to zero, and then turn it back up again, then volume returns to normal.
At first I thought it was just me adjusting the volume too soon after nav instructions, but it's not.
Just some glitchy thing that happens from time to time.

Not sure if this is what's going on with yours, but figured I'd mention it.

I can't say enough good things about my truck. It's one of the best vehicles I've ever owned.
So if an occasional radio volume issue is all I have to contend with, I can deal with that.

Best of luck!

I vaguely remember someone talking about a piece of plastic cowling falling in front of the turbo causing some weirdness, could be wrong, never experienced it myself but I remember some Cummins boys talking about it at one point.

Thread cleaned up.

JulieG, I don't think theviking was directing his comment to you.

My 2014 6.4L truck had a few issues that needed sorting out but the dealer came through including replacing the entire engine.

My 2017 6.7L CTD truck had some issues initially but those were sorted out as well.

I hate those times when you have an issue but it can't be duplicated once the vehicle enter's the dealer's lot!

I've had the volume issue before. Switch input/source on the radio and then switch back. Should work.
