Low cost tires

I just bought a cheap ram 1500 to haul stuff from Home Depot, haul trash to the dump, Etc. Wasnt interested in purchasing any expensive tires, so i searched on ebay the cheapest tires i could find. They are the Ironman All country A/T 275/65/20. ordered them on a Monday, and they arrived on Wednesday. Took them down to Discount tire and had them mounted and balanced. The tire tech that installed them was surprised that they balanced out so well being a cheap tire. They seem to give a smooth ride and also have very good traction, whether it be snow or rain. If you are looking for a cheap tire, you should try these.

That looks like the same tread pattern I have on my COURAGIA tires on the '94 2500. Mine are smooth as silk with no road noise.

From what I understand, there aren't that many tire manufactures in the far east, just a lot of different brands.

I have new Michelins of the 2018 Ram. The old '94 rarely gets more the 8-10 miles from home.

I bought it in October 2007 to pull a car trailer for my small car lot. It had Michelin tires on it when I bought it. I ran them until a couple of years ago when I needed to replace them.

No need for expensive tires now. My yearly mileage on it now is in the 100's, not 1000's. I've only put 34,000 miles on it since I bought it in 2007.

He;s happy. No need to tell him how short his, uh, tires are.

sounds like it ain't going to be driven very much, so why put expensive Michelins on them?
I put Michelins, on everything, for decades. My Son needed new tires on his Truck,
he got BF Goodrich rubber. I had just put Michelins on his daily driver car, a week prior.

The Truck, he does not drive it, nor rotate the tires, enough, to make the added expense of Michelins worth the price.
Why throw 60K-80K rubber on a car that will not see 10-20K before the sidewalls start checking and the tires needs replaced?

Spend the money , don't waste it on Chest Thumping Pride.

I have bought quite a few sets of Michelin tires over the years and yes, they are a high mileage highway tire, but I have experienced major road noise and poor wet traction long before the tread wears out. I used to run Michelins exclusively on my sports cars, but got tired of paying top dollar for a tire that wears out in 15k miles when there are others out there that for 30% less money perform very close to the Michelin.

did not intend to call anyone's wife ugly, simply meant why can we not e kind to others?
He has already bought the tires. There are no lessons, about that specific tire, which we can give, now, that he will not learn, all on his own.

Blanket 'Buy The Best' statements tend to be true but nto in all situations, sometimes, its buy the best for the situation and that the wallet will allow.
Else we'd all live in McMansions.

I personally buy what works not always the best. I've been surprised, both ways, good and bad with the products.

Some have been OEM or better quality and others not so much.

If you want absolute certainty you will stick to brand names with proven performance. That's why Michelin sells alot of tires. If you don't need that certainty you can spend less.

My antique car has a lot of hard to find oem parts on it, it also has its fair share of what works on it from auto zone, rock acto etc.

Being driven less than 1200 miles per year allows me to make that choice.

obviously, these tires arent for everyone. I was just merely giving my feedback on these. will everyone be happy with them? maybe not. I could not imagine spending $2000 on a set of tires for a 220k mile truck i gave $8000 for. I had a 2015 Eco diesel ram that i sold because it couldnt justify it just sitting there depreciating in the driveway. I chose to purchase a fully depreciated truck to sit in its place instead. I ran Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires on the Eco. They were about as expensive as the Michelin counterparts, but a much more aggressive tread design like i wanted.

Have these same tires in stock 20" size. Bought them on the recommendation of RAM dealership mechanic who runs them on his 20 year old beater Chevy pickup. Live in rural SE Colorado in an old mining town turning art colony; many streets are old brick, steep and rough, plus lots of great gravel roads to explore. Throw in snow and ice on occasion and you really want good tires.

Put these on in June '21 and have since put several thousand miles on them, towing both cargo and travel trailers and plenty of it on various Interstates. They cost less than $800 installed (vs. about $1,600 for a set of Cooper Discoverers - all prices local) and we get up to 22 mpg on the highway at 65-70 mph. No more road noise than the craptastic OEM Goodyear Wranglers, ride a little stiffer maybe. They do well in snow and ice too (holiday trip from CO to frozen Minneapolis proved this).

ANYWAY - tires are like sneakers or boots! You need to buy the ones that fit your needs and budget. These work great on our 2018 RAM 1500 Big Horn Crew Cab in our retirement to sunny scenic SE Colorado. Check 'em out.
