Lug Nuts

On the SAME DIsplay rack at the local auto-parts store….they sell locking lug nuts for Every Vehicle….. and RIGHT THERE…Next to them…..they also sell for $35 a UNIVERSAL LOCK-NUT-REMOVAL key.

Of course, in Dallas….all they do is use a battery-powered tool to remove lug nuts and steal the wheels. Thieves don’t care about whatever addt’l damage they do to your car.

5-minutes and your car is either sitting on blocks…or the ground.

I only have plain OEM wheels, common tires, and replace Chrysler lug nuts when they become damaged with all-steel universals.

OK. I bought these and they came in today. They were cheap. They are the same height as the OEMs but not as large around. They fit the stud perfectly, but look small compared to what is on there now. The cone end match perfectly as well. What do you think? Thanks

Just put the winter tires on,and gotta say i still have no issues with the splined lug nuts i've been using for 10 years now. On the truck and Challenger they got spun on and off every weekend in the summer,and the ones on the truck were still in perfect shape when i sold it awhile ago.They also got taken off and reinstalled with an impact gun ,when you're changing tires on 2 vehicles at the track after dark,i'm not wasting time doing them by hand,as we still had to drive 155 miles home
The key for them sits in a heavy duty baggie in the glove box of all my vehicles,never yet had any issues with losing it.
My 300 also has a locking lugnut on each wheel,as it gets parked in some sketchy area's at times,never yet lost the key to it,as it also sits in the same baggie as the splined socket sits in. Between the splined lug nuts and locking lug nut i can't say as i lose much sleep worrying about the wheels being stolen off it.They're probably safer then if they were on with a normal steel lug nut and no locking lug nut , between the splined nuts and the locking nut,the average wheel thief is gonna find one that's easier to steal the wheels off

I always wondered how the splined lug nuts held up , thanks for sharing. Now I would feel okay with them .

I thought they looked skinny for the truck , kinda like the ones for cars . At least that’s how standard lugs have been .

I actually prefer them over a standard lug nut ,if i'm buying new lug nuts,i'm buying the splined ones .
They'll also slow a thief down enough to where they'll probably move on,even if they have a universal socket for removing a locking lug nut,odds are they won't have one for removing a splined nut,and even if they do,they're pounding each nut out of their socket,same with the locking lug nut,they're also pounding each one out of their socket,which adds a bunch of time to being able to steal all the wheels

I've had my black ones for my summer wheels for 5 seasons now and they are still in perfect condition.

... Pay CLOSE ATTENTION to the mating-surface of your OEM nuts. BULGE nuts are used on most OEM wheels on Rams….but “Conical” are used on some. Any mismatch will damage your wheels and endanger your vehicle safety.

I noticed my factory chrome lugs are starting to swell on my night edition wheels during last oil change/tire rotation and have been looking for a quality black hex style M14x1.5 acorn/bulge nut for awhile now (forum posts/youtube reviews etc.).

Saw some decent reviews of the RHI Black ones (RHI 8444K6-B) and the wife got me a set from Real Truck for my birthday...

** I can't seem to find a good part number for Black Gorilla lug nuts and verify they size (22mm socket for chrome ones is promising)

** Anyone have any first hand experience with a quality black lug nut that has a larger bulge/cone seat that holds up well to impact wrench/socket?

(If so how about a link?)

I've had good luck with Gorilla Lugs on my truck. They changed the model number from what I have but these are the new ones: https://www.gorilla-auto.com/gorilla-automotive-66148fs

So far they are holding up well to road salt and being on the coast.

This is what I purchased from my rig in 2020.

I couldn't find a verified listing for these with pictures/specs/dimensions...

Apparently they were superceded by the 66148FS series (66148FSBC = black coated) as mentioned earlier by @Hemi395 .

Found this listing on eBay for a 20 pack set of 66148FSBC x20 and 7/8" hex size (22.23mm) which has a picture with dimensions to compare to the OEM Mopar lugs... Seems good to go (stumbled on another seller with a set of 24 for $60).

Have the 24pk on order and will report back. If all goes well, will do a roll up thread.

I did have a slight visible area around the cone-seat area when these are used for my black OEM 20x9 Warlock rims, but I painted that area with colour match paint and it looks great and has held up well.

Just an update ...
The Gorilla BLACK M14 x 1.5 large seat Lugs PN: 66148FSBC (Black Single lug link) are a good fit.

I had to abandon the McGard PN: 24216 Black locking nuts as the cone seats are just too small (like the RHI lugs) ... I'm not really sure about the look of the Gorilla Black large seat locks PN: 96641BDX (4 pack set), but will likely have to pick up a set if I can't find a larger set of black McGard.

>> I also need to paint/touch up the seat/cone area of the wheels.... And try to identify the correct color/paint code of these particular wheels some they aren't actually 'Black' but some other shade like Granite Crystal.

Anyone know the paint code?

An update...
Got the black Gorilla locks in and installed.... They seem like the best option out there for our trucks.

Mine were purchased new in 2020 and go on every seasonal change with my summer set up and still look like brand new to this day.

I do use (and carry in my truck in the summer season as well) a non-marring 6-point deep impact socket as this helps to keep those lug nuts in top condition.

I get frequent positive comments regarding my wheels with the black lug nuts on.

My full set are all the same colour and finish. Perhaps their process has changed over the years?
