My tranny just took a dump. Major slippage, stuck on the side of the freeway with with a boat. Have a 2016 Power Wagon, 6.4 liter, 42k. I have a Mag Hitech pan on it. Has anyone had the dealer void the warranty because of it? I know about the Magnuson Moss warranty but I don’t won’t to get in a big dispute. I’m considering putting my factory pan back on and then taking it in.

It all depends on the dealer. They can tell if u ran it low or too high. It will show in the trans. If u don't know the people in the dealership very well then I would consider putting it back on. It may just be a valve body issue too

I've recently had my tranny pan resealed/replaced by the dealer 4 times (and it still leaks but thats another story).

The service tech told me that he can 100% tell a factory seal job from a seal job thats been done by the dealer. Not sure why, didnt ask, didnt care. Both the factory and the dealer use the rtv stuff so who knows.

But my point is that if you put your stock pan back on then theyre gonna be able to tell it was monkey'd with.

I would leave the aftermarket pan and explain why you have it.

Either way I'm sure that they will try to deny your warranty. At least you won't raise eyebrows like you would if you showed up with a stock pan and a home made seal job.

This. They look at untouched cars and trucks all day long. They can tell what’s been touched. Switching it back just looks like you’re hiding something.

Unless the tranny pan caused the transmission to fail they can pound sand. And dealer being able to tell if a plastic pan with o ring is installed by them or customer is complete bs. Besides, dealer tried to “seal” it 4 times tells you everything.....

Our trucks have steel pans sealed by RTV type stuff, no o ring

The factory seals them with a robot. Im sure its pretty easy to tell

I talked to the tranny guy that put the Mag Hitech pan on it for me and he said it all depends on what the service manager says. Just depends on who you get. He recommended putting the OEM back on. If they say something about it being off I’ll tell them I took it off to flush it.

I should have never put it on. I was considering a pedal commander and cold air intake. No more. That would negate your warranty on a whole lot of stuff. No suspension mods either.

No, it would have nothing to do with the failure. I had the tranny guy who installed it put the OEM back on yesterday and had it towed back to the stealership late yesterday. I'm waiting to hear from them and have my fingers crossed. I'll let you know what they say. I may be selling my Mag Hitech pan. Are you interested? Less than 4 months old, with the receipt. Is your truck still under powertrain warranty? Your profile says you have an 2018. Ask your dealer if they are OK with it. If I had to do it over again I would have asked them in an email so you would get an email back and have it in writing. Personnel change all the time at stealerships and I wouldn't want to rely on a verbal approval.

This is why I've always thought an aftermarket skid plate for the tranny area for the 1500s, at least, would be well received...it really wouldn't affect the warranty of, well, anything, but it'd protect that plastic pan.

I had the stock pan out back on and had it towed to the dealer. They said the bolts on the pan were not the original ones but didn’t have a problem with it. They assumed I flushed it, which was true, and were OK with it. They replaced a module and it still threw codes so they ended up putting whole new tranny in it. All covered under warranty.

Did your truck display codes at the time of original failure or only after the attempted repair(module replacement)?

I have a 16 PW same as you, a little more on the clock, mine slipped at 52k mi, dealer couldn't find any issue, so I changed filters, flushed fluid( more like drained and replaced), this cured the "delayed engagement" for about 8k mi but it's back. Dealership couldnt find the prob the first time, but I have a feeling It's about to be impossible to miss.

Sounds similar to yours but mine has never thrown a single code. I hope mine is as easy to deal with as Your was.

How much did It help to have Ramcares on your side going in?

ok, Thanks for any info.

It through codes initially and after they changed a module.
Mine wasn’t driveable. Had to be towed.
I didn’t use Ramcare and didn’t know it existed until you mentioned it. I’m second owner and have had it about 6 months. The dealer was pretty good about replacing it. I didn’t have to fight them on it.
