Putting a Hellwig rear sway bar on my truck this weekend. Planning on adding a Mag Hytec diff cover in the near future Has anyone done these mods in this order an know if it can be done around the Hellwig sway bar or will the sway bar have to be dropped out of the way?

Think I answered my own question. Did the install today and noticed that there was a lot more room between the diff cover and the Hellwig bar than was between the diff cover and factory bar so I don’t think it’s gonna be a problem.

Ok. I thought Mag Hytec was pretty much the go to in aftermarket diff covers. I will definitely check out Banks. Thanks Burla.

Research Banks diff cover research before choosing, killer youtubes on diff covers.

Banks doesn’t make a cover for the 1500 trucks

Mag Hytec is a great cover and yes there is plenty of clearance to install after the Hellwig

Thanks JB1. Was just about to text that back. Went on Banks site and they only showed 2500 and 3500 series trucks for 2018 Ram. Nice setup. That’s exactly what I’m gonna do. Is that the amount of fluid the new setup takes? Four quarts? And how did you get it in to diff? Pump?

I also added the LSD additive so not quite 4 quarts

AFE also makes a nice cover. I went with the Mag Hytec because my buddy has a Chevy HD2500 lifted on 38’s and he drives the hell out of it offroad, tows, hauls construction eq and never had an issue. The cover looks great and from looking at my friends truck as example it performs great too. I always wanted one so that’s what I bought.

I just said to look at banks research before buying, after that you may opt for oem.

This is just one, I do believe he has many out there.

It doesn't hurt to watch banks research first, he has a few video's out there. I'm pretty sure at least a couple guys would have wanted to see the research before buying an inferior diff cover because it's purdy.

Me. My 2013 F250 roasted the fluid in the diff towing a 9500 LB trailer from Florida to Kansas. I tow regularly so the fluid was changed every 20000 miles. I had been using the stock cover for 60000 miles. The diff didn't make it to the first fluid change after installing a flat back cover that held more fluid. The mechanic that replaced the diff showed me the fluid and it was black as used diesel oil and smelled awful.

If they work so good and save so many rearends, One would have to ask why every commercial truck and all the semi's dont get someone to make some for them ?

Show me one person who has had a failure due to the aftermarket diff cover.

Sorry I’m not drinking the Banks flavored cool aid

I just say you couldn't even say royal purple gear oil in the ford 4x4 forum I was on from the large number of failures that happened to with that oil in the diff on the trail Now, could we say that RP was the reason for the fails? No way man, it was the trail, **** happens.

I'm just saying those tests are interesting, something to consider. It was weird that most diff covers are more square then round as far as how the oil flows, I don't think that is a good design. There may be many benefits from having an after market diff cover, but I would have rather wished they would have considered oil flow when they made the design. You don't find those tests interesting JB? I believe Banks wasn't even sure if he was going to do a diff cover when he did those tests. There just isn't a lot of tests that are in this detail. You may opt to buy a mag tec anyhow, I just found those tests interesting.

my favorite design is the see through, but i think they stopped making them.

Some options may be out there that aren't square...

Fluid aeration has many bad effects in a gear fluid. Whether or not something fails or not, it might help make a decision watching what happens in those square pans.

I'm not saying banks is the best, but research and talk to some guys. I would chat with @Hemi395, he has done a lot of research on it and he found all of those youtubes, I think he is even comfortable with the mag hytech.

I respect Banks, but I did not see anything definitive in his videos. Just a lot of talk about working the fluid and flat back covers. What about the difference in temperature between the OEM and the aftermarket covers? That would be easy to test and report on, you don't even have to put lights in the differential. Where's the data? Seems like a lot of hype to me. I appreciate that their cover has a great design and will probably aid in cooling the oil, but they do not make one for the 1500's so I had to get something else. I like the looks of my differential cover and expect it to last a long time. We do a lot to our trucks for aesthetics.

Pretty well every light duty diff cover or back of the diff from any manufacture'r is shaped the same way ,and none are squared off like the majority of the aftermarket covers are. That in itself should tell you something.
