Hi, I have a question on this upgrade....from what I've read, it sounds like it is a direct fit...BUT...if you do a search on the Magnaflow site this Y Pipe does not come up when searching under a RAM 5.7....it only comes up when you punch in the part number as a universal part.

Which leads me to believe that you have to cut your OEM Y pipe out and weld this one in? As opposed to being something that you can just switch out with hand tools?

Is this correct?

Yep, I did it on my 2011 and my now 2014 ram, I went to the exhaust shop and they just cut that part out and weld up the new Y pipe. Here are a few pics of it.

He haven't painted to weld yet but they are painted so rust want form.

This is from the factory and I would say do it.

So many pics but this will give you and other an ideal on how so restrictive the factory y pipe are.

Big Daddy, by the looks of the piece they cut out, they must have had to fabricate new pipes coming into the the Y?

In your pics one of the old inlet pipes looks like it makes a turn, but in your installed pic the inlet pipes look straight?? Am I correct?

If not, then it would be possible to cut out the old one myself and install the new Y pipe with band clamps...

Yeah, he did fabricated some of it he try to get it as straight as he could and came up with this, now you might can cut it a little farther back as he did but he try to straighten it out as much as he could. One thing about those band clamp that work it way loose, it's too much error for leakage so the best way so you this want happen is to find a good welder or do it yourself if you can. Clamps in times will come loose so I just wanted to do it right the first time and not worry about it.

Plenty of threads here on how restrictive the OEM Y is,,, or,,, more recently,,, isn't.

Depends on your goals. OEM/near OEM trucks won't see much,,, Heavily modified trucks are more prone to see true gains.

If one does decide to go aftermarket, make sure the installer is qualified. Some of the install jobs I've seen before were plumb pitiful,,, =(

As always, YMMV.

Nobody makes a direct fit bolt on performance Y-pipe that works with the stock exhaust manifolds. The Magnaflow 10778 will require you to cut the old y-pipe out and bend new pipe when you weld it back together...you cant simply clamp it in place.

Unless you are doing headers, I would probably save your money on this mod. The stock y-pipe is pinched off, but the stock manifolds are restrictive as well which negates much of the gain that you would expect from opening up the Y-pipe.

If it was just cut out the old Y pipe and weld in the new Y pipe I would probably give it a go, but now that I see that I would need to have two new inlet pipes fabricated and bent to fit I'll pass.

Thanks for the info..

I did this on my 2011 and I felt it hurt my low end.

On a stock truck or one with even a TB, exhaust and Intake, I HIGHLY doubt by replacing the "smashed" y-pipe, it will be even a noticeable difference. I have looked at the y-pipe and while it is somewhat squished it is also wider then the pipe below it. PLUS when you do this install and you have to put bends into the new lead pipes going to the y-pipe, some of those bends are probably JUST AS BAD as the original y-pipe. So no grounds were gained going this route unless it is through a mandrel bent exhaust.

If my y-pipe gets replaced, it's because I bought a set of headers to match lol. IMO I don't think it's worth it to the average Joe.
