Max tow 5th wheel hitch

I have a question about the Mopar (Curt???) 30K Direct Mount 5th Wheel Hitch... I saw a 2017 or 2018 RAM 2500 today and the 5th wheel hitch extended above the sides of the bed. I was surprised to see that. The owner wasn't around and it was dark and 14F so I didn't take more than a quick look... can anyone confirm whether the 30K hitch will fit under a truxedo sentry cover? Thanks!

I would guess the hitch was not in the pucks and/or maybe sitting on some shipping materials.

Both possibilities. It also may not have been a stock Mopar hitch...

Just traded up to a 2019 Ram 3500 CTD HO Aisin with 4.10s dually with the max tow option. It came with the 30k hitch. It is at its lowest configuration. It tops out about 2” below the bed cover line. Have not added a bed cover yet but there will bo no clearance issues in its current setup. I have not hooked it to the trailer yet so I may have to adjust the height.

I've run 5th wheels on 2 different trucks and both times have had about 3" of clearance under the bed cover. I love this aspect of the 5th wheel since once the cover is closed no one can see your $1500 hitch.
