For over a year my son has talked about installing a straight pipe on the Ram (I know, teenagers). We were running the OEM exhaust with a MBRP delete pipe in place of the DPF and Nox filters. We still had the cat and OEM resonator in place. A while back, we did an axle dump. The Cummins was still quiet with these mods and honestly, I didn't notice any change in exhaust note over stock. So, I kept putting him off and trying to talk him out of the mod because I honestly felt he would be disappointed with the result. Well, my son had been saving his money and hit me up Memorial Day weekend about buying a 5" exhaust and all the great sales he had found. So, I took his money and ordered a 5" MBRP turbo back system without a muffler. We installed the system Monday afternoon. The MBRP system was high quality and the instructions clear. I will say, I thought the clamps could had been higher quality as a couple were just normal U-clamps. The biggest issue is the clamp at the turbo. You have to hold it in place perfectly as you clamp it down, and it never looks like you have it lined up right. That was the only aggravating part of the installation. A friend and me took turns wrestling with it forever before my son took a turn and got it clamped down. (still listening to crap about that! LOL). I must say, it is a very noticeable difference in sound! I think the tone is raspier overall without being too loud and the exhaust brake sounds absolutely wicked! As others have said, you do notice more of a raw diesel smell without the cat in place. The main thing is, he is happy with the result and we had a good time working on the truck for a couple hours!
