When I first got my Ram in 2019 [2016 Sport], I read that MDS could be at least a partial cause of the lifter failure issue, so I used the -/+ buttons to eliminate it every time I got in it. That carried on to my new 2020 Rebel. I either use Tow/Haul mode or the limiter to bypass MDS. I never liked the idea of MDS because it is the same four cylinders each time and my thought was uneven wear would occur over time in the other four cylinders. I know technology has advanced considerably since the 8-6-4 Caddy problems, butI wanted to play it safe.
Recently I read about something I had not heard of. With MDS active, the cam in a Hemi gets more oil than if it's not active. First question....is this true? if so please explain how and why this happens. Second question....does the extra oil cover the entire cam or just the four cylinders that are inactive?
Last question....is there any long term concern defeating MDS?
