With my 2022 ram 1500 5.7l I am able to temporarily delete the mds with the gear selector on the steering wheel. Being this vehicle is not my everyday driver I find myself forgetting to disable it every time I start to drive, and when running errands you have to disable it every time you restart the vehicle so there are times I'll drive the vehicle without disabling it. My question is it more advantageous to have the mds disabled for short stop and go errand trips or when I'm driving 70mph on the interstate. I am planning a trip shortly where the vehicle will be driven on the interstate for sixteen straight hours. And yes, I will not be personally be behind the wheel for sixteen hours, the driving will be shared to eliminate fatigue.

Using the ERS buttons to disable the MDS function is useful for city driving or driving in mountainous terrain.

I often use them while on approach to the area I live to avoid traveling up a steady low grade at low rpm.

I occasionally use the ERS buttons to downshift before passing cars, when the opportunity to pass is brief or I just want to exercise my Hemi.

On flat highway, I welcome the potential fuel economy and reduced engine efforts, not to mention the increased oil volume through the MDS lifters.

The search utility in the upper-right corner can be your friend too. You will find endless threads on this topic as well as discussions on how to really delete the MDS, why you should or shouldn't delete it, etc.

If you want to disable it permanently, many companies give the option to turn off. I did mine with just a simple tune from HP tuners. For a 2022 you'd need to send your PCM in for an unlock ($100), then get it turned off. There are lots of other options from the other big tuning companies as well

The lifters get more oil when it's enabled.Takes oil pressure to the lifter to have it go into MDS mode, when you disable it via the buttons, there's less oil fed to the lifter body

As per wild ones response the lifters get more oil when mds is enabled, I am now wondering WHY are so many people clamoring to disable it?

The MDS system 'feel' varies from vehicle to vehicle. On my truck, the MDS system on/off was extremely noticeable and annoying. For me, it was either shut it off, or get rid of the truck. On others, it may work so smoothly it's barely noticeable.

This ^^^^^

To say the MDS system is useless is just showing one's ignorance. It works on some trucks and not others.
The performance can be very different on two trucks of the same year.

Mine is tolerable for highway use, which is most of my driving. For the short amount of city driving, I usually disable it while there and then re-enable it when I'm back on the highway.

If I were a city dweller or spent more time having to interact with other vehicles, I might feel differently about the MDS system on my truck.

And, it may disturb one person more than another. If it doesn't bother you, don't worry, be happy and enjoy your truck.

The MDS feature on my 19' was quite intolerable to say the least.

With my 23' the MDS feature is barley noticeable.
So, I leave it turned on all the time when on the highway, and only sometimes disable it with the manual gear selector button if I'm in heavy slow traffic.
