For anyone still coming across this. I was also told by the dealer that these are NOT covered under the 8/80 emissions warranty as well. Furthermore!!! They are charging me $4100 (plus tax) to get the MGU plus install ($1500). When you see online that these units retail for $1600. But I have 2020 with 45k and a failed bearing so...i have no truck to drive and this part is very difficult to source apparently. I've been waiting over 2 weeks and haven't even been given a status. I've seen online some information and even some videos of people replacing the bearing themselves. Anyways. This looks like it will be the last RAM I buy.

The issue with the bearing replacement is whether or not the shaft slop caused the windings to contact the inner part of the case and get damaged. Hopefully you caught yours in time.

Just found this insert in my 2022 owners manual about the 8yr 80k Mile warranty on the MGU... Some dealers are getting ridiculous with their warranty denials.

Good for your buddy but this is plain crazy an OEM part bought at OEM could vary that much. I understand about market variations and some places salaries and rents are higher meaning they need more, but from 16 to 42 hundred is bad. Did he need battery as well? Maybe this is the reason for discrepancy?

Replacing a
Ram 1500 eTorque Motor Generator Unit (MGU)
typically costs between $1,500 and $2,900 for the part alone. Including labor, the total repair cost often exceeds $1,500, with some users reporting high-mileage replacements for around that price. The 48-volt battery may also need testing, adding $2k–$3k if replacement is required
Part and replacement cost was 2400
