Yep. Daylight sensor for the AutoDim feature. There a small sensor spot on the the actual glass to sense bright lights behind you.

If you block it completely and shine a light at the mirror glass, you can force it to dim

M² Mods.

It's for the rear view mirror dimmer. The front lens in your picture detects the ambient light through the windshield that tells the mirror when it's dark enough to switch to Auto Dim. The little sensor in the actual mirror glass itself is to detect headlights shining on the mirror from behind.
