So I am a bit gun shy with engine noises since I had my 2015 PW engine replaced at 10k miles due to the connecting rod wrist pin issue... anyway another 10k miles later I did a quickie lube shop oil change... Anyway the only thing they had in 0-40 was mobile 1. Being I was short on time and was about to go on a long road trip I went with that. Now I notice a ticking noise that reminds me a bit like a stuck lifter only not as loud. Not the normal hemi tick of the injectors... regardless its definitely different now and doesn't always seem to do it. I THINK after been driving awhile seems to disappear... So 1.. anyone else have this and any correlation to oil?

Don't know if I recognize that sound or not; it's hard to keep track of all the noises that the 6.4 makes. It's easily one of the noisiest gas engines I've ever had and by far the noisiest modern gas engine I've ever had.

That is interesting feedback, I would fully agree on my first engine.. but the last 10k I have been amazed how quite the motor is compared to my 5.7's! Post a recording of yours?

i cant comment specifically on mobil 1 in the 6.4, but in the past ive noticed when i ran mobil 1 in my 4.7 and 5.7's, they would tick more. switch to pennzoil and they would be quiet. i usually run pennzoil for that reason.

I ran Mobil1 in my 5.7L 1500 for 87,000 miles without a problem. It sounds like you might have an exhaust manifold gasket leak. I did have that on my half ton. It would tick for about 2-10 minutes depending on how warm or cold it was and go away when it got warmed up.

Good luck with that, and let us know if you find out what the cause is.

Ran royal blue and castrol(from dealer) in my 2010 and it ticked...Running mobile 1 in my 16 5.7 and it ticks, not as loud but still easily noticeable..
0w40 is not alot different that 5w20 or 40.....0 repersents cold flow ability and the 40 means hot flow ability..
So as said i would look for other sources of the come n go tick..

Next time make time before hand to get the oil you want....Its when people get pressed for time that stuff gets missed or forgotten or go for the quick yadda yadda yadda...Hell stop in mid trip and get it changed again with oil you want..

im my old ranger (2003) i tried mobile-1 for a while and noticed the same thing, loud ticking. switched to Amsoil and it went away.

in the 6.4 RAM i just use the 0-40 Pennzoil and only one time have I heard a ticking that seemed out of ordinary but it was on a very cold startup when the truck was sitting for a few days in 0 degree weather during the day and negatives at night. It only lasted for about 3 seconds on start up and was gone. it never did it again in that cold of weather afterwards.

I don't find the engine to be overly noisy but I do hear the HEMI tick. I would worry if i didnt hear it.

I'm running 0w-40 Mobil 1 euro spec (only 0w-40 they make I believe) and I'm on my 4th oil change at 16,500 miles. Sounds the same as day one. Just the normal ticking noise it's always had, no clattering on start up (running a Fram extra guard filter) I do my oil every 3500 miles because it's cheap insurance
