So about a month and a half ago I picked up a set of the 2019 style modifystreet headlights. I installed Hikari ultra led's in the lows and some auxbeam led's for highs. The Hikari led's I'd say compare pretty close to a 35w hid kit. The auxbeam led's sucked in the highs. Barely brighter than the lows. I knew from the beginning I'd open these up and atleast paint them. But I figured since I'd have them open I'd swap out the turn led for a switchback led's. So I ordered a set of profile pivot switchback led strips to replace the current led turn signal board. Then in the clearance section on TRS I found some "cheaper" switchback strips so ordered them also. I wanted them to be as bright as possible so I removed the silicon casing on both strips. Removed the current led board's and attached the new strips.

Pic's to come.

Since I drive on back roads at night that are heavily occupied by deer I knew something had to be done with the highs. I thought about grabbing a different set of led's or modifying a set of 9005 led's to fit. But decided to on something different. For about the same price as another set of Hikaris I decided to go with the profile pivot HI-LENSE LED highbeam projector.

Pic's to come.

For the low's I'm going to try some hid's for comparison.

Opening the headlights up was interesting. First one went smoothly. Second one put up a fight. For whatever reason it just didn't want to separate. In the end I won but have some reforming to do.

I'm not sure if this is because I have the matte black version or if this will be the same for the gloss black one's also but they painted over the chrome. So I'm not sure over time how that would hold up. So using brake clean I stripped the paint off, came off really easy, then used oven cleaner to remove the chrome finish. Takes about 20 minutes for it to remove it. Washed the bezel and primed and painted. I'm not sure if I'm going to leave it mono toned or try and add in some black to break it up.

b4877e5a94cec726db25854bfeaf2e10.jpg

I'd like to paint the "shrouds" but everything is one piece and taping just the shrouds off is extremely difficult. Tried that first before figuring out the bezel was actually chrome just painted black.

I'm just waiting for the high Beam to come in so I can finish up

I didn't use these because I had some h13 connectors from another project but would suggest if you are upgrading the to switchbacks to ditch the stock wiring set up in the lights. This will allow you to leave the 3157 socket attached to your quads and plug directly into the truck's harness

I got mine last week and will run them as is for a while to make sure they are OK. I do plan on modding mine as well... Can you describe your process to open them? I've never done it before and that's the only part I'm really worried about.

I did 250 for 20 minutes. Start on the grill side corners with a screw driver and as soon as you can get some fingers in start pulling apart. You have to pull and lift the tabs. The tabs are usually soft enough to bend out of the way. I've only done this one other time. A convection oven works best. Unfortunately I don't have one now so at the 10 minute mark I just flipped the headlight over

Thanks for the info!

I think someone said they use a Permaseal type adhesive, but not quite as bad. Maybe only one of yours used it and the other used something different? :)

Do you just heat the plastic up with a heat gun to "re-form" the problem areas?

Yeah I'll use a heat gun to reform the bad spot. It's only really in one corner where I started. It's weird how they two were so different. It's not like the sealant was lacking, just came apart easier.

I'm waiting to see pic's of @Jimmy07 headlights. He finished his last week.

Like to see how well this is going to turn out. I know the Hi-Lens projectors I have are pretty damn impressive.

Nice I know I would do this if I didn't retro my quads already. Dumped way too much money into them and they still look good when I see them in action.

Stupid question, the housing/bezel looks squarish, but are they setup for round projectors?

I’ve been meaning to post some pics. It’s been raining a lot lately, but I did manage to get one in direct sunlight, although my truck is filthy. CpUmGg0.jpg
Color matched the bezels, upper and lower DRLs with lower sequential turns, and d2s mini low projectors.

Did you figure out a method to mount the hi-lense, yet?

Should be delivered tomorrow. On TRS site it's saying The threaded shaft is 19 mm so roughly 3/4". I'm thinking that I can remove the lense off the current projector and bore out the hole in the bowl slightly and mount it that way. But we'll see probably not tomorrow but hopefully Wednesday.

The "shrouds" are square but are notched for a round projector. These are the projectors

Man there's a lot of room underneath those projectors. You could do a lot with these.

Yup, 3/4 inch, I dropped my Hi-Lens right into the 9005 hole for the high beam on factory quads.

Picked up the Hi-Lense from the post office this morning. I was hoping to be able to use the existing bowl from the high beam projectors to mount the Hi-Lense but it would have recessed it too far back. So I had some 1/8" abs plastic sheets laying around so I came up with this. Started off with drilling a 7/8" whole and mounted it to the abs plastic. As it sat it was ~1/4" to far forward. So I enlarged the whole until it recessed far enough back where it cleared the back of the "shroud" had to make some spacers to compensate for the distance from the back of the housing to the end of the threaded shaft. Used some apoxy to glue the spacers to the plate and locked everything down with the supplied nut.

Added a silicon grommet and switched the park/turn to a h13 style connector.

The only wiring that is original to these lights are just the low/high and the dedicated drl wire.

At this point I wired the main drl's to the park feed and the "demon eye" on the Hi-Lense to the dedicated drl wire. I want the drl's to be as bright as possible.

Tested the lights on the truck. 2 minor issues so far, the driver's side Hi-Lense has a very light flicker, only noticed it off the reflection on the bezel. I'll have to double check my settings with alphaobd. Not sure if I have the highs as led's. The other issue is the turns, they function perfect but get the hyper flash on the dash, no lights out, everything is set to led's already because I have switch backs in my quads. I gave the truck a good 20 seconds to adjust. Maybe just needs longer.

Here's with low's (Hikari led's)

Currently have drl's set to fogs so didn't test the drl function. Have everything wired to use the "parking" lights as drl's. All my connections are accessible through the bottom cover so If something isn't right I can change it
