The coolant should have been drained when the cam and heads were done. Maybe not a full flush but you should have new coolant in it I cant see why flushing it right now would be recommended

It’s funny you say that, he called back before they closed saying the coolant service wouldn’t be necessary. Dodged that bullet.

Whenever I buy used I bank on having to spend a couple of grand on it because most people can't be bothered to do the preventative maintenance.

They will only fix stuff when it breaks and if your lucky change the oil on a regular basis.

Hopefully you will be all set when you get it back and won't have to see the dealer for awhile.

Just got her back. All is great so far, except for the fact they forgot to use the oil I supplied to them...instead they used their own crap and charged me for a full oil change. The receipt even states I brought my own oil. Sigh, guess I'll start changing my own from now on.

Yeah I was prepared (thought I was) to spend some money on her, but I'm pretty shocked at the amount of work it has needed tbh. Well over 7 grand in repairs (warranty covering most of that) and only had the damn thing for 4 months. You live and learn...

If a dealership did the work they should provide you with a warranty on the new parts they installed. Sorry your having so much trouble with your "new to you" truck. Hope your weather gets better pretty quick--don't look very good!!!

Good call on the extended warranty. Sounds like you made an excellent investment in that.

Driving home from work last night and hear a squeal noise from under the hood. I get home and the serpentine belt constantly whined. Figured it was from being damp or loose, but I decided to be safe and get it checked out.

Shop called back and stated I had a transmission fluid leak, causing the belt noise. On top of that, they recommended a full transmission and coolant service as well as replacing the belt itself, radiator cap, thermostat, air filter, and transmission condenser. Warranty covering everything besides the coolant and trans service (about 60% coverage or so)

This is all just 2 months after I got my camshaft, lifters, and exhaust manifold bolts replaced. Oh yeah and I’ve only had the truck for 4 months... I knew going in that buying a used truck would result in some maintenance costs, but I never could of imagined this.

Sigh. Can’t say that I’m happy with my first Ram experience.

Assuming that transmission fluid is the cause of the serpentine belt issue (and it could be), the recommendation for a full transmission fluid change, coolant service, thermostat, radiator cap, air filter are NOT germane to your current issue.

The only component I see that could be directly related to the problem is the transmission cooler (condenser). Was this vehicle in an accident? This is not a component that fails often.

The recommendation for the other service may be valid based on the number of miles is on the vehicle, but at this juncture should be considered a recommendation only unless they can specifically state that the items are causing another current problem.

No, this vehicle was not in an accident, at least according to the vehicle history report. The body and frame overall are actually in awesome shape. I just hit 117k so I understand the recommendation for the transmission service and radiator cap. At this point, I'm trying to cover any and all bases because I seem to have bought a truck that wasn't taken care of by the previous owner. I know for a fact the air filter had to be replaced anyway. I'm just thankful I've gotten some luck with my warranty.

I got a warranty from the dealer I bought it from. It proved to be extremely useful. Without it, I wouldn't be driving this truck right now.
