I just cant cant get use to the ddm hid color, think its dull and blueish, but the fogs add a lot!

Yea the heads look blue to me. I know that DDM uses digital DC ballasts or have in the past. I haven’t gotten a DDM ballast in prob 8years lol but I do still use them time to time. I find they don’t get as hot as a proper AC ballast like a hylux or morimoto so the DDM ballasts and bulbs tend to look cooler (more blue).

your fogs look like they are adding a lot. But I’m seeing a good bit of light scatter which you can see in the trees in the upper right hand side of the pic as well as some illumination above your low beam cutoff.

I will clock the fogs to 3/9. The ballast are the ultras too.
Im contemplating trying the hikari ultra LEDs or should i just try a new ballast? Maybe a 55w like the HYB on amazon? The 45w hylux is an option also but cost as much as my whole ddms!

You gotta pay to play! I had Hylux 45w on my ram for 4 years and didn't have a problem. They are a good brand, the new morimoto Elite use Hylux control chips in there ballasts FWIW. Jumping from a 35w to 45-50w will net you 20% more light and about 1k color drop. My morimoto elite (older style) have been on my truck for over 4 years and still work and are a lot brighter than DDM 35w. $200 for a set of ballasts and bulbs (great quality) plus a warranty of 2-4years depending on what you get is worth it. The LEDs will not be as bright as your 35w HID, the technology just doesn't exist yet for retrofits. I was once about DDM as the price is very alluring and back in the day there wasn't much else out there. Now I exclusively shop at TRS as the customer service and quality gear more than makes up the cost.

Yup, i use to buy cheap tools, now all makita. I try to buy quality more often then not. I was just so new to this hid stuff.
Do you think im better off with 45w hylux or stay with 35w? I dont need canbus stuff as i have alphaobd. I will try my 5500k ultra bulbs with them also.

Honestly the ballasts matter more than the bulbs, as long as the bulbs aren’t total junk the ballasts are what provides the juice. I have the hylux and the elites, both are good and the price difference isn’t that much. Power is about the same so it comes down to warranty, 3 years each I think for the 50w elite and hylux if I remember the elite 35e has 5 year I think.

you will get a noticeable jump in light output going from the 35w to 45/50w.

I just want the blueish color gone, output is pretty good. Wonder if going to the 35w hylux would change that. But it looks like the 35w only comes in canbus style and i dont want all that, so im prolly better off just going 45w.

I have the 45w hylux ballast with Morimoto 6500k bulbs in my TYC projectors. Color is very similar to my old setup of 5500k bulbs and 35w Morimoto & Hylux ballasts I had previously, but output is brighter.
One thing to not, depending on where you plan to mount the ballasts, they are huge by comparison to the 35w ballasts.

when I bought my first setup, I went with Morimoto 35w ballasts (in 2018 I believe it was). In the first month or 2 I had them, I went through 3 ballasts. They ended up sending me a hylux 35w as a replacement and I ran 1 Mori and 1 hylux from early 2018 till the mori finally failed late last year. From my personal experience, I say hylux over Morimoto every time as far as aftermarket ballasts are concerned.

Ended up sending back the ddm 35w fogs, not clockable, got them to sit right but still bothered me. Ill go this morimoto 2stroke option once i figure out my hids.
My ddm ultra ballast are big also, no way to mount inside.
So if i understand this all correctly, since my 35w ddm setup seems to run on the blue side, would running the 45w hylux whiten them up? Or just run the 35w hylux?

Definitely better quality from the hylux, the female plug on the hylux ballast is even sealed where the ddm is not and relies on the plugs seal.
I have these lights out in minutes without removing grill! Little tape on a socket helps hold that lower bolt.
Ill see how they look tonight. I have a feeling ill be ordering morimoto bulbs though lolIMG_20200417_081309.jpg IMG_20200417_085510.jpg

I have the Morimoto XB 35w ballasts that have been on my truck for over a year and a half.

I used alfaobd to enable the proper settings so I only need to run bulbs, ballasts and ignitors. Bulbs are 4300k color. Fogs are sealed morimoto LED with the yellow lamin-x.

I did disable my auto lights function and turn them on manually. I'm wondering if a lot of people are killing hids with the auto function. Who knows?
