Are you certain that new fuel pump is actually running..??

Have you opened the fuel line under the hood and seen fuel pour out of it?

Always check 3 things: fuel.air.spark.

Gotta have all 3. Charged battery too

That's still a carbed engine, so I would also look for the boosters once you have verified the fuel pump is running

(Or, drop some fuel down the throat of the carb and see if you can't burn your eyebrows off)

Try pumping some out with the electric pump until you have it flowing out the line, then hook the line up to the mechanical pump and try again. Turn it over for a good minute. If it still doesn't work you got a bad fuel pump, which is common with the parts store brand pumps. They're all just crap. Get a Carter fuel pump, I think summit racing sells them. You can also get them at bumper to bumper if you're lucky enough to be near one.

I have seen stuff sitting for years and the fuel pickup in the tank is all gummed up.
there should be a filter that can also be gummed up.

Dribble a spot of gas in the carb and see if it fires, brake clean or starting fluid is handy,
It is hard to install these pumps wrong, but it can be done , more likey the new pump is wrong, test it off the motor with a hose and some liquid, pump the lever.

BTW, if a gas motor is left in storage , it is a very good idea to put a bottle of fuel stabilizer in the tank and drive it for a little bit.
I do that on my standby generator that may sit for months, thou I do run it every month or so.

If you have the time remove the bed, it ain't that hard, I did it with no help once, and pull the gas tank out, flush it, clean the pickup tubes, and replace all the fuel lines. Then you'll have a brand new fuel system and a blank slate to start with.

Pull the sock off the pick up tube, chances are it will not let any fuel pass thru.
No need to replace it , just add a couple of inline filters. Then get into the habit of replacing them every year.

back at one time, everything had a glass sediment bowl on the fuel pump or the carb, to collect water and bits of dirt, handy as long as you kept the gasket good.
You could tell if any fuel was moving.
