No 8 speed here, but I can't believe those numbers. I have the 6 speed with hemi and on the street I avg 15 and on the hwy anywhere from 16.5-17.5.

I believe the sticker rating is actually 15/21/17 on the Hemi 8 speed. The v6 is 17/23/19, and the 6 speed Hemi is 13/19/15. That's all for 4x4.

I remember because when I first started shopping for mine, I wanted the v6, but when I saw that the 8 speed Hemi wasn't that far off in mpg, I couldn't resist haha.

So far I'm at 16.2mpg for my average with the around town stop and go killing me but at 65-75 on the highway I can cruise with about 27mpg.

I also don't have the 8 speed, but for what it's worth my average overall MPGs right now is 17.1mpg. I'd say i do 75% highway driving, 25% city. Very easy on the throttle. Almost always on cruise control on the highway. I'll be switching from 87 octane to 89 octane in a day or two when I go to fill up, so I'm hoping to maybe see an extra mile or so from the higher quality fuel.

You really need to use hand calculated numbers. I am all stock and mine is off 1 mpg in the wrong way all the time!

27 mpg.... :hahano:

I really never do this, but I will just say it. Nope. That's probably not happening. Not meaning to start some giant dispute as most things seem to turn into on forums. I'm sure you meant that the little mpg display says that from time to time while you are at cruising speeds. Which no doubt happens. But even when it says that, your overall highway mpg would not be that high. Saying this with as much kindness and respect as possible in a text. All apologies. I'm sure I just misunderstood you, which is my mistake.

If a v8 truck with that much hp and tq was able to get 27 mpg on the highway, everyone I know would be driving one. :licklips:

As it is, I pass everything but a gas station. (due to my own driving habits) :doh2:

Yea when I read that post I also assumed it's meant that there are periods of time when you're on cruise control and can get that mpg's for a few minutes if you're on a flat highway or going down a hill. I've never been able to sustain any anything over 20mpgs for more than a few minutes on the highway, even with the ECO on.

But if you're able to sustain that high an average then you're a better driver than I am sir lol :happy160:

I have only put 150 km on my truck. I picked it up this weekend. So far the average according to the trip computer is 16.5L/100km, but my highway mileage was 13L/100km @ 110km/h.

I have the Hemi w/ 8speed

So 4.35 US Gallons to 62 miles or 14.25 mpg

3.43 US Gallons to 62 miles or 18.08 mpg

He could have simply meant 17 mpg and not 27 mpg.

I can actually believe the 27mpg claim. Although my Ram is still on order, my '11 Durango Hemi, 3.46:1 a similar drag coefficient and weight 5300lb+ gets about 15.7 by hand in every day driving (75% highway) due to my aggressive right foot. But on a recent 3400 mile road trip I was able to average 21.3 with the Wife, 2 kids and luggage by simply going the speed limit (75), running +3 psi in the tires and 99% highway.

The Hemi 8 Speed Ram: (According to Ramtrucks and Allpar)
-Less parasitic loss in the engine due to the electric steering adding 5hp and increasing fuel economy by 1.8%.
-Wheel to Wheel sidesteps add .5% mpg.
- Pulse width modulating fuel delivery.
-Active grill shutters add .5% mpg.
-the 8 Speed has an overall more efficient design, thermal management system and available 3.21 gears.
- 2013's come factory with next gen low rolling resistance tires.

All this will allow 4 cylinder mode to stay engaged longer with less load.

I'm betting on a flat highway, like the 300+ mile stretch of I-90 here in SD, you would easily see this average.

You have to also realize the New EPA figures are supposed to reflect a more real world driving habit and not finding the ideal speed on flat land like they used to do to figure highway numbers. This equals lower numbers on the sticker. Most stickers also include a little note stating a range for both city and highway of what divers may see.

I don't see 27 mpg highway as a possibility.

My 2013 RAM is a Hemi 8spd 4x4 Crew w/3.55 gears.

I have almost 1400 miles on my truck. My avg is 15.1. This is mostly local driving (suburban area, not really "city" driving) as you can tell by my average speed of 29 mph (see below). This is with a light foot 80% of the time, and the other 20% having some HEMI fun.

At the end of the month I will be going to my beach house in North Carolina, which is 440 miles each way with mostly highway driving. My prior DD (2011 Jeep GC with 3.6 v6) typically averaged 23 to 24 mpg during this trip depending on how loaded the truck was and how windy it was. I'm very curious to see how my RAM does on this trip.

Yeah, 27 isn't happening. My G8 on flat ground with 400bhp is right around 25mpg average and that's with the DOD operational. 27 would be awesome, but I believe it's just not going to happen unless you have the wind at your back where ever you go. lol

It would probably help to post rear end ratios, 4x4/4x2, cab style, or any mods along with claims.

I believe the 27mpg claim was strictly a highway mileage claim and not overall mixed average.

I agree with it being a highway number, but even with the 3.21 2wd model, I don't think 27 is possible unless driving in Nebraska with a powerful tail wind and going 60mph.

I live in IA on the river and we have some hills, but overall it's fairly level ground. If I see 20mpg I'll be elated! :***:

.

This plus having a lower drag coefficient than a G8 .4 vs .36 (9% 2008 Pontiac G8 GT - Pontiac - Get Car Specs - Car specifications with thousands of models from all car makers ) and a more efficient final drive ratio with the 3.21 than the G8 could be enough to make up for the difference in drag area. I believe on flat ground at speed where weight has little effect the Ram will get better mileage.

Yeah, it's all theory and opinion. I like to think it's possible and we'll all just have to wait and see what we get.

We're talking averages too. I just don't see it being possible. Heck, EPA doesn't see it being possible! lol

Real world 65-75 mph.

But hey, I'm on board with it being possible. I'm getting one! :party36:

Oh and my G8 has a 2.92 rear axle ratio...
