Not so hard to believe, my last tank hand calculated at the pump gave me 18.0MPG in my 19 1500 Bighorn 5.7L eTorque with 35x12.50x20 Cooper ST Maxx tires and 3.21 gears.
I posted pics of my screen in post #84, from this past Saturday. BUT in the end, regardless of what you calculate, what the sometimes barely to monster Lie - O - Meter says, when gas gauge near the magic mark of "E", we all have to stop and fuel the beast. But it is a HEMI...

The truck is now 2 years and 5 months old with just over 20,000 miles. Mileage Per Gallon has slightly increased.
At 2 months and 2061 miles. Cruise Control at 70 MPH. MPG was 22.0 See Pic 1
At 2 years 5 months and 20469 miles. Cruise Control at 70 MPH. MPG was 23.2 See Pic 2
Both trips were on same Interstate 20 in western SC.
Combined Highway/City is now 17/18 An increase since new.

Floor it fun factor still there :p No MPG documented.

Just an FYI.

The higer the computer MPG - the more INaccurate.

You should only go by hand calculations.

I just ran a 1200 mile round trip on my 2019 ram hemi with 3.91 gears. I 15 freeway from southern Idaho through Utah to SOuthern Nevada. set cruise on 83 mph except for around SLC. showed 15.7 mpg. Picked up a single axle ATV trailer with a tall folding ramp with expanded metal for the return trip. Cruise set a 80 mph I got 12.5 mpg. I did the math at each gas stop and was within 1 to 2 tenths of mpg of the computer. It makes a big difference when the cruise is over 70 mph in my experience.

Oh yeah, but the Hemi will definitely put an extra straw in the gas tank when you are really above 65, above 70, and ouch. At 79, mine gets a lil thirsty, but doesn't do too bad as long as cruise is on and level roadway. But like another posted above: Your driving skills, manners, speed, conditions, if you are towing, traffic, weather, all adds in on what you get. I personally become a lil concerned if my "fuel tank" drops below 1/4. But heck, drive it, maintain it and enjoy it. That be why I got a RAM truck, beyond the part that I need a truck to tow a trailer sometimes, pick up "big" stuff, etc.,.

2022 Ram1500 5.7 Hemi. Recently installed a S&B Cold Air Intake. My gas mileage has changed. I'm went from 17 MPG average to 14.5. Is this normal?
I don't see a good technical reason for this. Was this drop based on one tank of fuel to the next subsequent one, or based on several fills since adding the CAI?

I have a 2019 Big Horn 4x4 Crew Cab with a V6. I did a short trip (250 miles) on freeway all the way. From Knoxville, TN up I-81 to near the West Virginia border. Most of the way to WV was up hill quite a bit. I had the Ram Truck on Cruise Control set at 73 MPH all the way up and back. Staying with the big trucks except when having to pass. I then topped off as soon as I got home. I registered 21.5 MPG, the best I ever saw on my great truck. Normally around town it will register around 18.5 MPG with no air conditioner, 17.5 MPG with.

Before the Ram I owned a Honda Element 4 cylinder with half the room and only got 21 MPG. So I will never complain..so long as Joe Brandon stops causing gas to go up.
I had a 2018 Durango 3.6 and it showed 23 MPG on average. I never reset the computer and this is mixed highway commute and city driving on weekends. I now have a 2022 hybrid SUV 4 banger turbo getting almost the same torque (but much less HP) and it began with a combined 30.4 but after 6 months has gone up a few MPG. I miss the Durango 3.6, it never complained when I flogged it while the little 4 banger screams like a banshee. The only saving grace with the Banshee is the cost of fuel right now.

This thread was a good read and informative for me as I'm considering a new 1500.

Regarding bad MPG, you folks are amateurs. I have a 72 Cadillac Eldorado convertible, white with red interior. No need to press the go fast pedal when driving in town, the car literally drives itself. It's gross and I can't afford to drive it, but its a great car none the less.

ll, if we are going for worst mileage, my pickup is acually really good. On the other hand, the 1969 GTX convertible with a factory blown 426 Hemi does maybe 5 or 7 mpg if you don't drive it too hard, but what fun is that. Romping on it, maybe 2-3 mpg.

I'd rather have that GTX now, especially with the 426 Hemi than 5 Rams! Now those kind of cars I never bought for gas mileage! LOL

My Eldorado is 8.1L and gets very similar. I rarely drive it anymore, but when I do is to take my wife to the local ice cream stand in town. When I get back I'm all woosy and I don't know if it's my diabetes and the ice cream, or the car, I suspect the car, but it's like dog farts, you still love the animal.

Hemi Gas 6.4L V8
2022 Laramie 2500 6.4L Gas Stock tires: so with 4,500 miles I’m still at 9.1mpg. Most is city driving. I pull a 26’ travel trailer once a month or so and get about 8.6mpg highway. A neighbor has a 2020 PW same engine (unknow gearing) with 35” tires, raised, roll, cage, roof rack carrier, hitch mount spare tires, propane tank, fire extinguisher, shovels etc. It’s a beast! He has 40k miles on it. He showed me his average as 11.8mpg. He said I should ask the dealer to see if they can retune it somehow.

Is there anything a dealer can do to improve mpg?

I also had a Honda Civic Hybrid which gave me 41 MPG. BUT, after two years the electronics went out on three boards for the Hybrid Electric side. Causing me to be able to only go at 45 MPH until fixed. It only cost me $4,000 BUCKS to fix the electronics.!! Looking back I would have been better off with a NON-Hybrid looking at total costs. Including the gas costs by the Hybrid.!! Never another Hybrid in my lifetime.!!

One leg of driving through the mountains last week after filling up in Jasper. Some legs go worse mileage, some slightly better, Considering the amount of hills and being at 65 mph for most of the trip I thought this was pretty good for a 2500, 6.4 with 3.73s with about 6000 miles on the truck. Total trip 1100 miles Edmonton to 108 mile house B.C., touring and return. Hand calculated total mpg over the 1,100 mile trip was 18.6.

The ONLY accurate way to know what the MPG is, when filling up when the pump shuts off wait 1 minuet then fill until the gas clicks off. Write down the mileage. The next time you fill up repeat the same thing. divide the gallons into the miles driven. That's your real true mpg. My 19 RAM 1500 with 3:92 gear ratio and 5.7 engine gets anywhere from 16 when its below 30 F to 20 when its above 80 F and its a nice level road with no wind. I am pleased with our truck it has cost little beyond basic oil and plugs and smog valve, tires. At 105,500 miles the brakes are still more that 1/2 half. I have never had a vehicle that has been so dependable like this truck.

How about this fuel mileage? Oh wait, that's my '22 Honda Civic. My 20 Laramie 1500 Hemi averages 18.5 to 19 mpg on 300 Mile highway only trips at 65 to 75 mpg. Perfectly acceptable in my mind.

But I drive the Honda now when I don't need to use the truck. Not any longer accumulating 30k miles a year on the truck either.

I got so tired of buttwads calling me an out right liar, despite posting picture proof, that I basically quit posting on these MPG threads. Don't worry about the snark comments, if we did there is nothing we would post on here because there is always that one guy that deserves:biggun:

Funny how guys will say stuff on a forum they would never say to your face.
