So, got a mufflex 14" exhaust kit for Christmas, and when I went to install it, the front 3" pipe seems much bigger than the factory was. I put the clamps on right and everything fits perfect, but even with the clamp as tight as possible the muffler can slide off the front stock piping easily, they have a gap between each other. Due to this, when first starting the truck it rattles bad, But when the truck is running and the pipe heats and expands it will stop rattling. I know this is not normal. But is such a large piping size difference normal for these kits and what should I do to secure it better?

It seams everyone has had this problem. The front clamp does not tighten enough to hold it. I talked to the guy at mufflex about this and he said you have to read the instructions. They say you have to use air to crank it as tight as you can. Well, I used a Snap-on 1/2" at 120 psi and cranked the s@#t out of it and it still moves on the pipe. I don't know what else to do. It does not rattle, but it does leak and I assume it will not pass inspection.

two options-
1- get it welded. most shops should do that for cheap.
2- remove the lead pipe and cut a slit in it about 2 inches long on either side. then it will collapse enough when you tighten the clamp

Yup ^^

The mufflex should have had more than one slot on the inlet side.

Few minutes with a hacksaw to make a new slit and crank it down!

I'll try the new slit thing. Don't want it welded as that's the whole point of the mufflex kit.

I had that same problem, so instead of more force, I grabbed a bigger tool....impact gun. It sucked it right together, no leaks, no slips worked good.

Found the clamps. Thanks guys. No more rattle. Although it was too cold out there to remove the tips and pull the old clamp off. So I'll have to do that another day and make everything perfect.

Check on amazon or summit. Its called a stainless steel lap band clamp. 3" i believe. I put that on my mufflex the very first time and never had a problem.
