Been looking at some new big horns. Decided that i could save some serious money by getting a used tradesman (yup, thought of that all by myself). So all along my journey which i started months ago, i have been hoping to find a slightly used truck like this one so i could save some big bucks:

Its a 14 3500 with 6.4 hemi and 14k miles. Saleslady tells me 30 or 31k on phone before i even go to look at it. Im 1 hour away. I get there and check the truck out and its mint! Clean , not a scratch all detailed and everything. Its "certified" too.I did see a little oil right under the filter and figured I could use that against them :) but they brought a mechanic out to look at it. I knew because of the location that it was probably just not tightened enough. He said its either that or they didnt oil the gasket before putting it on. Anyway, test drive it and we go inside and i tell her ill sign right now for 30k. She goes to manager for approval and comes back and tells me its 33k for that truck and there must have been some confusion with another truck that i asked about. The other truck is a dually , how do you confuse that. I show her an invoice that has a price for 38.9k for same new truck with more options and she says "where did you get that, who do you know, theyre not supposed to give those to you". So, i have smoke coming out of my ears at the same time im laughing inside . She knows it and gets the manager and he says because they screwed up theyll do 31 and i agreed. We go to do paperwork and she has a sheet with the payment about $50 more per month than i expected! So i look at it and its a 5% rate. I tell her Ill get my own financing cause im thinking around 3% which would drop the payment down a good amount (roughly $40). They say i have to use their financing!. I told her all pissed off I wish you would have told me that over the phone and saved 2 hours of my time and left. Then she calls me back and tells me they have a new 15 with more options she can sell me for 38k and thats the absolute lowest they can go (which isnt bad for the loaded up tradesman). I dont feel like listing all the options but it didnt have the 4.10 axle which is importanet to me so i didnt call thme back. Instead im going to leave a bad review on the internet if i can for their dealership

Hi ccrider,
I would of flat out told them "You lied to me and I really don't think I could trust you to be honest with me in anything at this point." I did this before to a dealer that was playing games. Spending 30 grand is hard enough I don't need some dipstick making it more complicated or difficult than it needs to be.
Good luck with your search,

preachp

Damn, that sucks.

If it's any help, I had a dealer try and charge me $4,000 extra on my truck I found out of state. I gave him the link to the truck with the original dealer's price and my price that I was quoted from a competing dealer and he still tried to say their lowest was $4,000 more than their competitor! I ended up going to the original dealer out of state and getting it for lower than what my local dealers could give me.

Oh yea... also had a dealer try and sell me a used truck as a new one. It had been sold, driven for 2 weeks, and the dealership took it back because the guy's financing didn't go through. He put a crap load of miles on it in 2 weeks. And since his money didn't go through, he never titled it, and so they said it was still a new truck. Then come to find out from another dealer, when they looked it up, it had been listed as a demo in the dealer search since they got it back.

This is why you get a buyers order with the itemized pricing before you even go to the lot and check out the truck.

If it's in writing, you're happy and they cant dink around with the figures. The VIN is on the BO. You like the pricing, you make the drive. You inspect the truck, you get what you expected or you dont. You're in control.. nobody gets pissed off and you will likely drive away in the truck.

People will tell you anything you want to hear to get you on the lot. Got a trade? If they cant give you a fair appraisal from a picture of your trade, what makes you think I'm going to buy yours only from pictures? Auto Trader will buy it sight unseen why cant they?

No buyer's order = no deal. On to the next dealer.

I never heard of this buyers order till you mentioned it today. This is actually only my 4th vehicle purchase in my lifetime. I have been doing as much learning as i can before this major truck purchase. I just did a google search for the buyers order and this is what I saw. It says its not a final sales contrcat :

BUYER’S ORDER A buyer’s order is a summary of what both parties have agreed to thus far. It is NOT the final sales contract committing you to buy the vehicle. The buyer’s order should list the agreed upon price for the vehicle and a breakdown description of the exact make, model style, color, and options on that vehicle, as well as the vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle in question if one has been assigned to the vehicle already.

So, it doesnt sound permanent to me either. Cant they back out of it or change their terms? Its just a bunch of ******** (car buying). I try to avoid buying cars from dealers if possible for this reason. I would love to buy out of state too and things like this is what keeps me from doing it. The further away a dealer is, the more nervous it makes me. This was one reason why. I wouldnt want to do a deal over the phone without seeing a vehicle unless it was an order and you got everything electronically (just like a home purchase they do now adays) where you can do an electronic signature. But, i would obviously secure the interest rate after this incident. Im going to talk to my local dealer (a guy ive been talking to and seems interested in helping me get what i want and see if he can get me the above truck (kind of like a locate). That way, i give him the business and take it away from the other dealer. Then Im going to drive it down there and show them (if it works out)

With all due respect brother man .. just find what suits you, if the dealer is not willing to put what they offer in writing and stick to it (?) Then dont even go to the lot. No harm, no foul. .. and let them know this up front. You change anything and the deal is off. Period.

I am almost 42 and just purchased my 43rd car in my life. I have been around the block a few times. 13 members of my family are car sales people. They're NOT all dishonest you just have to find someone and pin their ass to the paperwork. It's all about the bottom line number. IF you're not happy with what's on the buyers order, why go to the lot? Especially drive for hours to go to the lot and play games?

Not trying to bust your balls man .. just take care of business before you waste your time with the haggle. I know youre having trouble deciding but I promise you, I could sell you a truck, today. I have a buyers order on my truck I just purchased in Feb if you'd like to see what it looks like.

( I told them at least 3 times my truck was Copperhead Pearl they just never changed it.. lol Oh well )

Thanks buddy. Trust me if I knew, I would have made sure of the rate before I drove out there. learned my lesson. They told me the price verbally which they stuck to Though. If you want to pm me the bo that would be cool. I'm still learning. Just tying to avoid mistakes on a 50k purchase

Added the BO, just blocked the obvious stuff..

This is what you want. If they wont give it to you, they are bad news. Run, dont walk to the next dealer.

I understand about not making mistakes and that's the whole reason for forums like this, people helping people. I cant express tone on my posts but I can assure you I'm trying to help you out, in no way trying to be condescending.

This is the first thing you want to ask for once you figure out the discounts. Ex. if that lady over the phone could have put the numbers she quoted you into the BO and emailed this to you? Youd be driving the truck right now.

Got it! Youre the best (serious). Thanks a lot. Just a matter of seeing the vehicle first though and making sure you want it, right? So, i would had to still drive there to see it. What if there were dents and scratches, body damage, etc?

If it's not exactly what they said it would be ? Walk. Grab a burger and a beer and head back to the house. Nothing they can do. It's in no way binding, it's just holding them to their BS quotes to get you on the lot. If they're willing to quote the price, are they willing to put it on paper?

ALSO --

With this buyers order, .. you can send this on to another dealer.

"Smith CDJR in <wherever> is ready to sell me this truck for $XX,***. I am going there Sat to look at it. Do you have anything comparable to offer? Someone is going to sell one on Sat, it could be you, it could be them .. just giving you a chance to beat their price. "

I promise you.. PROMISE, you get 2-3 dealers fighting over the unit? Done deal my friend. Notice that $10,400 I got off sticker? I did that without ever stepping foot on the lot. Also, $17,000 trade .. they never saw my trade, only from pictures I sent via email.

31K for a used 14 3500 SRW ST 6.4l with 14k on the clock. Man that's nuts I paid 31K for my 14 3500 DRW with all the toys available in an ST that also included Dealer install OEM nerf bars, 4 panel hard tonneau, remote starter and bed liner and that was brand new out the door price tax reg etc incl. I also used my own bank and got 1.8%

Never go back to whatever that dealership is (freakin crooks).

One more thing to consider, buying new Chrysler Capital will give you $2k rebate if you go through them. BUT the rate is 3.9%

They only require you to pay 4 moths payment to get the rebate

Just a refinance at month 5, drop it to 1.whatever and reap the benefits. It may cost you a little interest but it wont be $2k. Just an idea.

You know its bad when they tell you , that you HAVE to use their financing. Now if they can beat your bank, thats one thing...but Id walk if they say I HAVE to use theirs. Means they are making $$ off financing.

CC -- Not sure if you'd even be interested in this truck, but man I tell ya, it has practically everything you had asked for in your post a while back.

New 2014 Ram 2500 Power Wagon For Sale in Atlanta & Marietta, GA | 3C6TR5EJXEG272180

I am in no way associated with Ed Voyles. I'm just saying, I'm pretty ruthless when it comes to dealing and this is where I landed. I searched a 500 mile radius when I bought mine and EV was willing to deal.

This is a leftover 14 - it has been on the lot for a while. They will be willing to cut it to the bone.

What you see listed on the website, price wise may include some rebates you wouldnt necessarily qualify for .. so be careful with it...

What I'd do is just play dumb. As them to outline what each and every discount means to you. How did you arrive at this $9500 discount ? Have them itemize it for you.

Put their best deal on a buyer's order and email it to you.. then go from there.

This is a BAD BOY here .. I know it's a bit pricey but just try it. I think you'll be surprised how far they'll come off the price. Id bet you could get it for around 40k.

Dont like the decals? take them off..

I personally love the color combination, even without the PW decals.

Bottom line you have to like it of course, just have them bottom it out and see what you think. It might be worth your time. A flight into Atlanta wouldnt be expensive either, it's a huge hub. EV is about 20 min from the airport.
