Ok muffler guys.. particularly running Magnaflow.. I have an 18" single in - dual out.. (Edit: still has the cats and resos) an this **** is starting to sound like a wet fart in church. I'm getting goofy looks from people every time this heffer cuts one loose.

It never did it till recently, and only does it when the throttle is wide open shifting from 1st to 2nd.. but now it's starting to do it from 2nd to 3rd. Is the material inside the muffler starting to blow out, or is it breaking in and supposed to sound this way.

By the way.. I don't get on it all the time so dont judge me, but it is a Hemi and ya'll are just as guilty as I am.

I've had the muffler on for several months.. why would it be doing it now though? That's what I don't get. The sound of the muffler at idle and normal driving hasn't changed at all, just when it shifts at wide open throttle.

Could be that the muffler is now broken in

my 18" magnaflow does the same on occasion. Not sure about the tq mgmt theory as I've run HF tunes with and without tq mgmt intrusion and sound is pretty similar, though very occasional.

I believe it has something to do with the timing /retard when the tranny shifts, usually hear mine on the 2-3 shift if I "feather" the throttle just right. I thought it sounded pretty cool myself

I bet it has something to do with the fuel cut/ torque management.

I'm thinking RedAlert may be right about the fuel cut out causing this noise, along with xrsman about it being broke in. That would explain why I never heard it till recently.

This isn't occasional.. I can get it to do it every time.

My 14" does it too. I kinda like it, lol.

It's definitely growing on me slightly. It kinda makes the Hemi sound like a beast.

Could you possibly post a video of said " wet fart in church"

:happy175:

But seriously....I'm curious as to what this sound is. Nvr heard of this before.

I'm trying to figure out a way to upload a couple sound clips for you.

Does it do it every now and then or a constant thing? My truck did the same thing when I was on it hard then let off and it would want to kick into eco mode and engage the MDS when it shouldn't, not sure if this was the cause but hasn't done it since my lifters and cam were replace due to a failed lifter.

Since I don't have a magnaflow but also dont know the sound I'm willing to be you could have a failing lifter /MDS system

Funny you mention that, cuz when MDS is engaged at low speeds one of the lifters on the right (passenger) side of the motor sounds off like it's got a pair. It's very noisy. This may be the problem?

Edit: ..to answer your question. Yes, the "fart" noise is consistent.

I would take it in and have it looked at, hopefully yours is still under warranty. I'm guessing it would be expensive since they took everything off the motor except the short block, (crank and pistons). everything else was removed cleaned and reinstalled or replaced. The metal shavings throughout my motor is was scares me with long term damage since it got so far cause the first dealership were complete morons...

Yea, i have about 4k miles left on my extended warranty. I'm assuming you had a ticking noise as well, which caused you to take it in?

Also... how long was your truck down for?

IT was a tick that turned more into a lifter or valve tap and performance issues cause I had a dead cylinder due to valves not operating right cause the lifter failed.

I was down for 4-5 weeks but that was cause the first dealership i took it to were complete idiots.. Long story, but only took the second dealership about 5ish days to get it all fixed up and back to me. I'd get it in there pretty soon if you only have 4k left.

If I remember right the lifter collapsed and then cause the roller tip to cease destroying the cam. I'm guessing it would have been around 4-5k out of pocket without warranty.

Definitely making an appointment asap. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated!
