Do not run 5w30 or any additive. You have MDS which requires the lighter oil.
Try switching to a good full synthetic your next change redline, royal purple, or AMSOIL are all great choices.

Mine sounded like a sewing machine and now is smooth, see my sig. I used redline oil and it has helped over 80% of the people here for the same issue. I think 2 out of 11 so far it failed to help, but even then they still have high quality oil. I highly recommend royal purple oil filters to match up to any synthetic oil, they are synthetic as well and will last longer then paper. It isn't immediate, it seams to take a while for the molybdenum to seep into the metal to protect against your dry starts, but usually within 500 miles it will sound a lot smoother. Check the synthetic oil thread and google "moly basics" to learn more. It is just the first step, if it helps you are done cool that was easy, if not you might need to change out your lifters.

Whatever you try post back and let us know how it worked good or bad,

I'm in the same boat mine didn't do it till resently. I run pennzoil 5w20 and I only have like 23,000miles. I'm thinking about switching oil I'm due for a change soon. What gets me is no ticking or anything but pull up to a drive thru or start by another vehicle and my hemi sounds like a heck of a cummings lmao. No codes thrown, no loss of performance, goes away after 5 minutes. I'm going to read through the oil thread tonight and consider swapping brands.

^^^ +1

Redline made my engine smoother and quiter. Using RP filter, too. Very noticeable difference from Mobil 1.

I watched the video in Burlas sig. Mine dosent sound much louder then his and as a matter of fact my mufflex kit is just know broken in so I'm hoping that added to the sound. Anyways should there be any extra precautions I should know about from switiching from a conventional oil to a synthetic? Also, I'm gona change my oil at 3000 miles no matter what so could I get by with running a mopar or purolator filter?

Dude, it really is a waste to change your oil at 3000 miles, even double that you would have no issues at all. Paper filters get stiff and when they do they no longer filter, try it for yourself and cut it open at 3000 miles and see. Don't take anyone's word for it, try it yourself. That is why I don't use them anymore. Paper filters are held together by binding agents, and synthetics are held together by wire mesh. The binding agents and hot oil cause the paper to get stiff fairly quick. purolator also makes a good synthetic filter if you like that brand. No worries in changing to synthetic, all top synthetics comp0letely mix with conventional.

Yeah i recently cut open a napa platinum 47060 that came off a ls7 corvette (also could go on a dodge journey, the new ram small filter)
I dont know how long it was on there but it was in excellent condition. And i tried to find a difference from what i remember about the royal purple oil filter that came off a mustang that i cut up a month ago. The only obvious difference was the color of the antidrainback flap and the hole pattern/style where the dirty oil goes in. The filter cartridge inside was exactly the same and the bypass valve looked very similar. It is impressive to cut open paper filters after an oil change and see how poor condtion the filter media is in. Im currently running a napa platinum for the first time on my truck and the only difference ive seen so far is that my oil is noticably cleaner at this point in the oci. But that could be due to my last last oc was dirtyer and contaminated my last oc. Now im on my second run of pennziol platinum and everything is top shape. Engine runs great no noises (had the tick when i was on valvoline synpower) and very little evaporation. Oh and its a 5w30 and mds works like new.
Cant wait to do a used oil analyisis on this pure plus stuff!

Try the recommended oil filter or mopar filter. Years back people were having ticking issues on start up and the filter used was the main culprit in many instances. Some even had ticking issues using certain synthetic oils, switched brands and the problem went away. I don't remember the brand, sorry.

But in the majority of the cases it was the oil filter. Seems the check valve let oil slip by draining the system and upon next start pressure had to be rebuilt and ticking occured to until it was attained.

That reminds me. I need to cut my old purolator pure one filter open.

I just changed my oil and use the purolator synthetic filter. Looks nice.
BTW, still using Supertech 5w20 full synthetic. Works great for $25 and no hemi tick... Went about 5500 miles this last run.

wasnt there a part number for a direct interchange with a larger filter from the older models? That's a worthwhile upgrade IMO.

Anyone have any experience with royal purple oil helping with the tick? Redline is sort of hard to come by in 5w20 around here but RP is pretty plentiful. I'm approaching 2500 miles on my truck so I'll probably do the first change soon.

Walmart has Royal Purple oil. They also have Mopar oil filters. At least the one by me does.
