What kind of navigation head units do you guys have? Any recommendations pics?

I have a 2006 that did not have navigation originaly. I plan on buying a diffrent bezel so that I can buy an in dash screen but Im not sure if it'll fit right in or is there any mods that need to be done? Has anyone done this? Any pics?

pioneer seems to be a popular brand for double din nav units

Love my pioneer. AVH-8400BH I have not used the nav so could not say anything about that.

I had a bezel built by weedahoe to get rid of them silly trim kits.

I second Pioneer. I've had several over many years and never had any issues. If I didn't want to keep uconnect, I'd put in a Pioneer myself.

Though I actually prefer a separate nav unit like my TomTom over integrated.

Pioneer or Kenwood would be a good choice. A Double DIN head unit with NAV bezel for a third gen truck works just fine. If you don't have NAV now you'll want to get an aftermarket NAV antenna. The head unit should come with a trim kit but I suspect you won't need it if you use the NAV bezel.

While I went with the stock REC/NAV head unit from MOPAR, it is a DD unit and no worries on fitment. There is a small cubby below your stock radio that you won't re-use.

There are lots of the bezels and antennas online. Check your head unit specs to see if they provide a NAV antenna. My NAV antenna sits up in the dash, at the base of the windshield, where the little center speaker used to be.

So just to show ya...here's my stock system and the upgraded REC NAV installed:

Do you guys know if the steering control still work on the aftermarket radio? If not is there a way to get it to work?

Kenwood FTW!

With that being said and depending on your price range. Alpine has a new NAV unit coming out that is supposed to be retarded fast with an 8" touch screen instead of a 7". It's also retarded expensive. You can pre-order it on crutchfield for the small price of $1499.99

Wish I could put a MyGig in my truck. I'd have to become an electrical engineer to make it work though.

That being the newest is obviously the highest. You can get them for $500-$600 bucks but I don't recommend it. Stick with big names. Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer. I shy away from Jensen, Clairon, Valor. The cheaper you go, more than likely the older the unit it. That means they react slower when you select an item, changing inputs (AUX,CD, etc) and the maps tend to look like Atari games. Reviews on the websites where you buy units are your friend. Of course, I never buy from those websites. I look at the reviews, find the one I want, and get it a lot cheaper on Amazon.

Reddot your bezel is making me want to throw a dub din in mine.

do it man. So worth IMO. my pioneer is awesome and I think I only paid 600 for it. You can find them now for 500. Weedahoe makes a killer bezel. I hate the trim pieces.

Pioneer, definitely!

Right now i'm running a Pioneer AVH-P4200dvd in my '08. Love it. It's basically all touch screen except for a few buttons along the bottom of the screen (volume, SRC, mute, seek). Has navigation. I'm sure by now there's a newer model of this for the new trucks! I paid around $450 I believe. I'd recommend it for sure, i've never had any issues with it and i'll definitely be putting another one of these in if I ever end up with a new truck!
