Hey all, looking for advice on a truck upgrade. Currently I have a 2012 Sport with 137,000 on the clock. I am 5 yrs from retirement and want to get a newer, lower mileage truck. My 5.7 is on its second cam and still sounds like a sewing machine. I do some towing, not exceeding 4500 lbs ever, but was wondering if I should upgrade to a 2500 to get away from the cam/lifter issue with the 5.7, or does the 6.2 have the same issues?
What are the good features of each? And also, what do I want to absolutely avoid? I try to research every purchase I make, to avoid mistakes (like buying a 2012 5.7 hemi, known for cam issues). That was on me for sure. Didn't research it at all. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE my Sport. But I have to tow in 5th gear and the lifter/rocker tapping makes me nuts.
If I buy now, I can have it paid off by the time I retire, so please, any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You have a rare year, only truck with the 6 speed 1500. I don't know your gearing but if it is 3.92's there isn't a chance I would ever sell that truck. All hemi's same thing, they never fixed it despite some weak attempts too. Try some redline 5w30 and a royal purple 20-820 filter. If you try it join this thread with results. Many hemi's with hemi tick not ticking anymore with this combo. Once a truck is tickless, it means the tick is gone, not there. It is the introduction of EP additives and base oil, meaning the metal is now sliding where it was rubbing.

Results-
62 trucks= tickless hemi's
28 trucks= sounds better still ticking though
15 trucks= no help at all

Only the TRX's get the supercharged 6.2,the 2500's get the naturally aspirated 6.4.The 6.4 has the same issues as every other VVT hemi in regards to cam/lifter issues.
If you're planning on upgrading to a 2500 with a 6.4,make sure you get one new enough to have the 8 speed.
