Devin- I live a a couple hours south of u- I looked at Reno dodge but they would t budge on price. I was about to go to Dennis Dillion and get a Laramie 6.4 2500 for 43k out the door but I found one in SoCal one trim lvl lower for 5 k less. Remember financing on New vehicles is a lot better and on a truck like that u will most likely save on the interest rate alone. Up to you if you can justify the 8k more for a diesel.

43k on Laramie is amazing... I've looked everyone far and wide to get a laramie with the black appearance group for under 36k... wasn't happening, no matter where i wen't. I guess I need to come up to you guys!

what happened to researching the truck, finding out the invoice pricing, minus all incentives and using that as the max price to pay? I know that logic is mostly for new vehicles but it also gives a closer idea what not to pay for a used vehicle.

As far as used vehicles go, I've always felt like this market is the toughest to research when getting a good deal, especially shopping dealerships, but also where the best and worst deals can be made.

good on you man! Is your name Devin? I ask because that's also my name.

I've always felt like getting a good deal for a used car/truck from a dealership is harder than negotiating new.......truth is I have the most experience buying new.......I guess I just have a fundamental problem with a dealership buying a truck for 20k and selling it for 30k....that's too much profit even if the deal on my end was decent.

Sort of a backwards way of looking at it I guess, but if they get a smoking deal, I want some of it too and since I don't know what they paid for the vehicle and don't know of a way to find out I guess I feel like a damn sucker and I don't like that feeling very much. If trade-in value & auction prices are any indication of what dealerships typically pay.....then it seems to me they usually get them on the cheap.

Since you asked for opinions... I'll give my 2 cents. Pay off some of your current truck, first. You will be upside down on payments if you try and sell it or trade it in because you owe so much on it. You said you are possibly looking at a new career... wait until you get there to see what your income will be and what expenses you are going to have. You mentioned baby fever... let me tell you, that **** is expensive!! I have an 8 month old and it will drain your pockets. But, it is SO worth it! Your living arrangements will become a factor (apartment/house, own/rent). End the end, it all comes down to what you can afford each month.

Figure out how much of a payment you can afford, if you are going to get a loan. Go to your bank, or a credit union, and get pre-approved (shop around for the best interest rates). That way, you know your budget and what your payments will be going into the dealer. The dealer will ask you what kind of payments you are wanting... don't fall for that. Tell them you are looking at "out the door" price, nothing else. They will arrange payments however they want, if you finance through them, to get you in a truck that is out of your price range. Go through the paperwork with a fine tooth comb. Look at ever number they write in. They will try and slip "add-ons" onto the final number as fees, or whatever, just to up the final price.

Also, really sit down and figure out what type of truck you "really" need. Do you really need a 2500? The new 1500's are very capable at hauling/towing for the average person. If you need the 2500... no problem, just make sure you really do. With a baby in the future, you'll want the Crew Cab. Research what options are available and what you want. I had salespeople that didn't know anything about the trucks and try and tell me what options were available or not, which was mostly wrong.

Sorry that was so long winded... just trying to help. :)

Small world... I went to 7th grade in Hominy and my parents were teachers/coaches there. That was a while ago, though. I grew up on a ranch in Osage County... we still have half of it... north of Skiatook about 15 miles. I graduated from Skiatook. Eagle Chief is the translation for my Osage Tribal name.
