New 100,000mi warranty

So I'm in the market for a new truck, I had been convinced that I was going with a 2026 (Warlock) just to take advantage of the new warranty that is being given with it. I've now talked to two different dealerships that are trying to convince me that i should by a discounted 2025 because the manufacturer warranty is garbage and likely won't cover much.

Is this a sales tactic to get me to buy their dealer "warranty" or is the manufacturer warranty really that bad? Anyone have experience with the manufacturer warranty care to help me decide if it's worth it to spend the extra on a 2026 for the warranty or take the discount on a 2025?

It's a powertrain warranty. The factory bumper-to-bumper is still 3yr/36k. All they did was extend the powertrain from 5/60 to 10/100.

That dealer is blowing smoke straight up your rect@l cavity so they can move existing inventory. I'd tell them to get f'd.

The dealer is feeding you full of crap to move the leftover 2025 and put a sale in his pocket. IMO If your not looking for the Hemi motor, I would take the 2025, if it still has the deep discounts (My 2025 Bighorn was 18K off sticker) and use some of the discount money to buy a max care warranty out to 125K. I would buy the warranty through an online source (Granger, Zeigler, ect) and not the selling dealer.

Next year when there are ‘26s on the lot, they will be saying how great the extended powertrain warranty is.

Both things are true.

They will say whatever they can to convince you to buy what they already have on the lot *AND* the OEM warranty is questionable these days, administered by Indian call centers that dealers need to get approval from before doing any work.

Yes, and read it line by line because in this era, there are no limits to caveats and disqualifications, especially for those who trade every few years or less.

After all, who do you think benefits the most from any extended warranties?

Does it cover e torque, lol. What difference dioes it make even if it did since they aint fixing it anyhow.

Go look at and drive a 2025. I love my SST

If you can find a 25 you like, buy it. Last three trucks I’ve bought were leftovers from the previous year and heavily discounted.

The factory 10y/100k warranty is a nice gesture but it’s very restrictive. I wouldn’t let that be a factor in my decision. You can always buy an extended more inclusive warranty with the savings on buying last year’s model.

But, if you are set on certain options & colors and are prepared to pay for it, by all means order a 26. Your truck / your money. Get what you want, not what some dealer is trying to unload.

I'm going to chime in on an alternate opinion. I specifically ordered a 26 truck BECAUSE of the 10 year warranty. I further plan to buy a warranty the covers the rest of the truck out to 6 years at least. I'm no mechanic and honestly I'm too old and fat to be crawling under a truck anyway. These trucks are stupid complicated and everything effects everything else. I currently run an 18 PowerWagon that I love and that hasn't given me a lick of trouble since I bought it new, but it's out of warranty and the problems I see on this and other forums tell me it's a matter of time before something truly expensive comes up. I'm going to sell my truck before it has problems with a clean conscience, and I'm happy to spend the extra to get a good, reliable vehicle. I've been a Ram guy for about the last 10 years and I love their product, but man when things go wrong in these trucks, they go really wrong. Having that protection of that warranty- even if it's just powertrain- is going to matter as I approach retirement.

Nothing "truly expensive" on a 2018 Power Wagon will cost more to fix than what you paid to move to a 2026. You could replace the entire drivetrain and be ahead financially. If you just wanted a new truck, I think everybody gets that. The best protection is money in the bank to fund your own repairs at your own choice of shop with your own choice of parts and I can tell you from recent experience Ram's warranty is not protection as much as a fight waiting to happen.

My 2020 2500 diesel came with a 5-year / 100,000 mile factory power train warranty. (We also bought the "complete" extended warranty that comes with a deductible.) Now, with less than a month to go before the 5 years is up, the pinion gear is howling. (Only during deceleration, which seems odd to me.) So Ram will cover it, but they did have to get approval. But Mopar has the gear set on backorder, and who knows when it will show up. The truck still runs and I have it back while waiting for the parts, but it isn't something I would like to haul long distances with. So the warranty came through.

I bought a 2016 new and have used the Max Care full package multiple times. It is at lifetime but now only good for 125k. I bought a 2025 Durango and will be buying a Max Care 100k 8 yr. none of those single packages.

I bought a 2025 ram 1509 lariat with the hurricane engine. I went with an extended warranty and bought what the dealer recommended which was LDS and my research concluded that LDS covered more and they don’t try to approve rather than deny claims. If I bought a 2026 I would still need a. Extended warranty but wouldn’t they the huge discount.
