Hi. Just got my first Ram truck (2018 Ram 1500 V6). So far I’m pretty happy with my new truck.
It’s time for it’s first oil change. I’m going synthetic because I think it’s the best option and i want my truck engine to last many years.
I’d like to hear your opinions and recommendations for synthetic oils. Close to home there is a quick lube that uses and promotes Motul oils.

Appreciate your help and comments.

Motul and redline are as good as it gets if you have a ticking engine, mobil one costco deal best bang for buck period. But one oil has proven to be the best choice imo with non ticking hemi's, PUP 5w30 paired with a Royal Purple filters. Best wear numbers on the forum, most popular oil on the forum with the most users. PUP 0w40 was made with FCA support for 6.4 Hemi's. FCA likes PUP this I promise.

I just had my first one done at the dealer, full synthetic at 4000 miles. I believe they use Penzoil

Did you request full synthetic or is that your dealer's normal practice? Just wondering as the person I spoke with at my dealer's service dept noted the mopar (penzoil) they use is conventional.

I told them synthetic, it ended up being $62 including tax.

Last I checked they don't even offer Pennzoil Platinum in some weights for Hemi's such as 0w40, so I'm sure that is PUP or another brand.

2014 Ram and it is NOT a Dodge

3.6 v6 Pentastar Ram truck. Not a Dodge.
I use Pennzoil synthetic 5w-20 platinum and have since 6,000 miles. I have 34,000 now. I do this because it helps with high temps when I tow. I have the 3.6 v6 Pentastar. Happy.

Dealer synthetic is 100% PP. SRT is supposed to be PUP......

I went synthetic Pennzoil Platinum on my last RAM Hemi. It helped quiet the 5-8 seconds of tick at start up.

On my current '18 Hemi, I'm between the PUP 5w30 and Pennzoil Platinum Ultra. This one has no tick at all (knocking on wood everywhere within reach). Just coming up on 1k miles so a little time before the first oil change. I figure I'll do the swap around 2k miles at most.

I’m at 5500 miles, I did my first oil change a few months ago. I read several pages of info here and I switched to 5W-30 PUP, I wanted to prevent any issues. If I hear a tick in the future then I’ll switch to redline, but for now my truck runs smooth.

Here’s what I used

Just had mine changed for the first time and had them fill it with Redline 5w30 and RP filter. Hemi is currently quiet so I'm hoping the RL will help it stay that way. Seems to be running nice and smooth.

So then all dealer oil isn't PP? cool

Correct. Everything but the 0w40 is PP. The 0w40 is PUP.

To recap for clarity:

Dealer synthetic oil change for everything that is not an SRT = Pennzoil Platinum.

Dealer synthetic oil change for SRT vehicles = Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.

Clear as mud.
