Hi everyone, first I didn't see if there was a welcome thread that we first have to go into and say hello, like some other forums do. Glad I found this forum. Anyway, Hello...

I have a 2009 1500 Sport Crew I bought brand new back in '09. I've never had any major issues with the truck, just minor stuff. About six months ago I began getting really horrible gas mileage. Before it was pretty good, I do drive on mostly highways to and from work. Now though even around town my "miles till empty" quickly decreases, even when at a light. If you can understand what I mean. My MPG is pretty bad too. I took it into the dealership and they said they couldn't find anything. I know something is wrong though. What should I check or have them look at again.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Paul

Have you done your usual maintenance stuff like changing air filters, tune ups? Have you done any mods or the engine or get bigger wheels and tires?
I had an 05 Tacoma close to 10 years before my ram and my mpg dropped towards the 8-9 year.

miles on truck? normal gas mileage vs the current "horrible" mileage?

I would start with the basics. one at a time to see what changes it. change air filter, oil&filter, fuel filter, even check to see if you need to clean the air flow sensor in the intake tube.

and do it yourself unless your under warranty. others will chime in with better advice.

Yes all maintenance is up to date; air filter, new plugs etc. I'll have to look at the air flow sensor though. I have just over 85,000 miles. Outside of warranty. No engine mods, but I do have aftermarket rims and tires but my mileage was good with the same set before, so I don't think it is them. May need some guidance in changing some of the filters.

And sorry if I put this question in the wrong section...

I think you best bet would be to cut your losses, sell it and get a 2016 1500 outdoorsman. :favorites13:

but really, I think it would hurt to check the mass air flow sensor for build up of crud. it doesn't take much.

Miles?

plugs need done?

thee are lots of possibilities

Don't tempt me.:) I have the lifetime engine and powertrain warranty on her though, may want to keep her for a while.

I'll have to look through the forum, but are there Haynes type maintenance books available? Or how to guides here?

Hemi's don't have a maf(air flow) sensor.

You still haven't said what MPG you are getting. With my 09 I get about 19-20 on the hwy. I do mostly city driving and I'm lucky to get anything over 14mpg. I do have a heavy foot though. lol
