Need some insight..

The 06 Ram 1500 I bought several weeks ago has been a joy to drive. But a few things have happened/came up since having it.
This past week had to get a new heater core ($1,000) but something happened again today.
Twice now the truck's engine just shut down. No warning, no shuddering, etc. The truck still has electrical power but the engine shuts off and on the top left the "check engine" light popped on. But thankfully it's done this in a grocery store parking lot. I'll just coast to a stop. Park it and start it back up and runs fine again.
I've never been in a vehicle where the engine just cuts off.

The guy I bought it from said the only issue he had was a squirrel must of ate through a wire. He got it fixed but the abs/brake light would pop on from time to time.

It had 147k when I got it. The code from the engine light is P0404, EGR Valve, but I'm sure that's not my problem.

Before I bought it my daily was an 01 Dakota Sport with the 3.9. I put about $5500 into it, just had got new tires, shocks, etc on it. Only drawback is it's a regular cab.

I'm just not wanting to throw money at the Ram until I fix it. My mechanic said it could be a TIPM, ignition switch, fuel pump, or something else. Said that there's no way to really tell until it does it again or does it more often.

Any ideas possibly?

My first thoughts are:
1) Alternator is not putting out full amperage, test it.
2) Battery may be bad, do a load test on it.
3) ignition switch may be bad

The first two you can check, the third you might just need to replace. But first check all wires because it is possible former owner missed one that was partially chewed. Also make sure all major power and ground contacts are clean and tight. The fact that other components retain power seems to limit this to the major parts of your ignition system including the battery, where it might have good volts but lousy amps.
