Decided it was about time to upgrade the audio in the ol' beast, but having 0 experience put a stop to it. Looking for some recommendations on what I should do parts wise. Budget is $500-750 keeping the factory HU (I like it). Audio level tends to be around the 17-20 mark and I tend to listen to classic rock, country, pop. Don't really Care about thumping base but a little more then now will be better. Thanks for the help in advance !

I have the base system with the 3.0 but will be eventually switching to a 5.0

I was in the same situation a couple months ago. Too lazy to type out my experience on an mobile device, can't type easily! In a nutshell I too wanted to keep my stock stereo but it would cost me money for a loc with questionable gains. I'm happy that I invested in a new HU. There's a lot of great deals out there and you have so much more control of the sound. You'll also get bluetooth for your phone. I'm not so impressed by the quality of the sound with music played with the Bluetooth. In my mind wired as an iPod sounds better. You can get HU, 6.5s , and single amp for that price. Do it right the first time and save yourself some aggravation.

Forgot to mention that the speaker replacement helped but a sub really rounds out the sound and fullness My system wasn't complete and I wasn't satisfied until the sub was installed.

A measly build compared to yours haha.

Actually, yours is more sensible than mine. I expect to be deaf within the next 6 months, lol!

I was thinking about doing these in all 4 doors Kicker 40CSS654 6-1/2" component speaker system at Crutchfield.com Yes/No?

Those get good reviews and would be simple to install.

I am definitely not an expert, but in my research I came across these. I actually read reviews in Germany from guys who had them, too. They are supposed to be really great:

Would I need a amp to drive them or can I just use the adapter harness

I am VERY happy with my Skar amps. You should talk to Etroze86 he has a really good hook-up for those. He helped me get mine and the price was lower than Amazon. ;)

How much extra wiring would I have to run for a amp?

Wiring is going to depend on what amp you end up with, but a normal wiring kit is usually enough wire for our trucks. Like david mentioned I have a hook up on skar audio equipment and can help you stay well within your budget. Pm me for more details.

Well to bring a old thread back to life, finally got around to adding some audio equipment to the beast. For speakers I went with Kicker 40CSS654 6-1/2" component speaker system at Crutchfield.com for the front doors, Kicker 40CS654 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com for the rear doors, and Kicker 41KSC354 3-1/2" 2-way speakers at Crutchfield.com for the dash. Looking at options for adding amps and running all the speakers and a sub off them but have nooo idea. I like the Skar amps, but also looking at these. JBL MS-A5001 500W 1-Channel Amp w/ Digital Input Mixer if someone was willing to write/draw a simple wiring diagram for how I would wire all the speakers to amps and a sub, I would be forever grateful.
