Hoping yall can help. I’m getting a lot of mixed info about my current issue. 1) the tappet of the rocker arm on cyl 3 moves freely side to side, and is the only one to do so. Some say it’s normal, others say it’s a valve seat issue. The valve doesn’t move as much as the others do, which resembles a failed lifter/flat cam lobe. Can’t seem to narrow it down after many online searches and posts. I’m guessing best best is to continue to breaking it down to confirm. Trying to not spend thousands of dollars if I don’t have to. 2015 1500 5.7 144k miles. Truck started misfiring on #3 when hitting the accelerator hard. Started the metal to metal tapping at idle, added some stabilizer, and went away. However. Hitting the pedal in idle above 2k rpms, the tap returns. So I guess I have answered my own question, however, does that entire rocker shaft need replacing as well? If that’s the case, might as well replace the valves, springs, push rods whole 9 yards. But, that being said, that amount to actually do the top rebuild equates to what a new engine costs. Better off buying a reman? Or new engine, with hellcat pump/lifters installed, and mds delete after engine installed? Thanks for yalls opinions

Skies the limit and all options are open. Alot of this is going to depend on what kind of budget you have and or how mechanically inclined you are. It sure sounds like you have a lifter that has failed. If your trying to do this without spending thousands that means your doing it yourself. A conservative estimate would be close to 2k for OEM lifters/Cam, Oil pump, timing set and all the gaskets and fastners. You will want OEM lifters if your keeping the MDS which is the cheaper route. Lots of people have done the cam and lifter job.
